Evening Guy and Girls,
New issue found on the 2.5td, opened the OSF and found the door strap is broken away from the body of the car, the strap is inside the door but not attached to the car.....
Anyone managed to get hold of a replacement base plate where to pin bolt through, looking at pictures it looks like they are welded or studed into the door pillar?
Anyone dealt with anything like this before?.....

Not mine, that's door side break, mine is missing on the actual pillar, I have 4x holes so it looks like it's had no lubrication seized up and ripped out the pillar....
It couldn't break the easy side ;D

A lot of the Ex Plods I came across were welded, good fix and would normally outlast the life of the car if done properly. :y

Problem i have is the actual plate where the bolt goes through is missing, so ive got nothing to weld unless i try and salvage one off a scrap vehicle or fabricate it myself :o :-X

I've had this happen to two of mine.
A neat seam of weld across the top and bottom of the bracket, finished off with a touch of body colour, and it was hardly noticeable. Worth spraying a bit of rust preventative fluid on it and on the back through the recess to prevent further rusting.
As for getting a replacement - they are only attached originally by several spot welds, which is why they tend to part company from the 'A' pillar due to careless opening of the door. If you find a scrapper, the odds are that one will be partially hanging off as well, so a sharp wrench of the door should help it come off completely. Alternatively, take your cordless drill, and drill out the spot welds first. With the strap undone, the door should open wide enough to allow access for your drill, or use a 90 degree adaptor.

There are, but Blutack isn't an option, so suck it up an get doing ;)
Common sense would suggest at least checking inside the A post... But yes, there's some sponge insulation, gearbox and alarm ecu, plus associated wiring and the wiring for the right hand side of the car, plus the right hand end of the dash loom.
To do the job properly, strip the kick panel and end of the dash... Then cable tie the loom to the dash end, and pull the rubber seal away. Use an old board to shield the interior and weld away :y

Yup, get wiring and sound insulation out of way, disconnect ECUs, and weld away.
