« on: 11 March 2012, 21:14:57 »

hi,my 97 2.5 cdx which i put a second hand auto box on in march 07 as its box was well shot has started to slip when cold and coming home tonight lost drive and computer came up saying automatic gearbox,i stopped the car put it in park + switched off  engine then restarted and it drove off normally, also might add it wasnt in limp mode before i switched off engine, also have noticed if it messes me about its when cold/first mile or so of driving, when fully warmed up it performs perfectly, its oil was changed  when the box was fitted 44,000 miles ago in 07,wondered what gurus on here reckon?

What's the fluid level like for starters? Appreciate it was replenished some time ago, but there may be a leak?

My old box seemed to be leaking a little!

had oil and filter changed at vauxhall dealers, they found some small bits of plastic in sump tray when removing!! said they had driven it upto temp and seemed to be ok,so payed them £189.00 !! for there trouble, got two streets away and guess what, rev counter hit the ceiling again,no drive other than in limp mode computer saying automatic gearbox, but interestingly when stopping and switching off engine then re starting it drives ok again for a bit, looks like another box for me,biggest wrench is loosing £189.00 hard earnt pounds just to find out its mullered!!

the bits they found are the remains of your thrust washer. Upon finding that, they should never have done the atf change. Incompetent, robbing barstewards....  where are you located?

if its been ongoing a while, the pump faces will be shot and need machining... In my case, my sprag clutch was broken up too. A known good box may be just as economical for sake of a few pounds... :y

I should imagine the old oil went straight in the engine oil drainer.
