V6 missfire
« on: 10 March 2018, 18:03:54 »

Changed plugs 2 weeks ago as part of service & replaced fuel pump 2-3 days ago. Car has been running fine for 2 days now have missfire, checked plugs & leads & got a healthy spark at each plug so starting suspect probs with fuel injection, any pointers on where to look next? No fault codes logged

Did you check the hose on the fuel pump for cracks? Also important to make sure the hose isn't kinked causing the throughput to be restricted.

if i recal yours is a 3.0 so will have a coil pack as tunnie suggested to check for cracks. or look at it in the dark to see if any arcing visible. also check plug leads .even thou there may be a spark the leads can go open due to the heat making them brittle at the plug end. check with a meter on ohms scale.expect 10- 20 k with the longer leads having higher resistance. any very high could be fractured.change if in doubt.
does it idle ok ? if so but only misses on power thenit could also be a partly blocked fuel filter but id start with keads first.

People will have their own preference for different makes from budget to expensive.a bosch set or equivalent known make should last a good 5-10 years .just check your leads first as it may be only one or two or replace all if you have ant doubts
Most factors should stock them

Have you tested HT leads? Which bank is misfiring? If you move HT lead does does miss fire move?

Not much point in new HT leads if the DIS has failed....

Dis is fine with no splits, have 2 leads which are suspect so will renew them all. Been on the car for over 8 years & others have minor cracks in them

Replaced spark plugs, leads & fuel filter as part of service, replaced fuel pump as it was lifeless, checked coil pack is in good condition but swapped with a known good one, checked everything 3 times & still has missfire. Connections inside pump are good & no twisted or cracked hoses, would rip my hair out if I had any, any advice where to look next would be most helpful as SHMBO is not a happy bunny  :'(

Have you tried another set of plugs? I know you say you changed them at the top and bottom of this thread. But have you changed them twice? Or Once? If the latter, try different plugs before you go any further.

Also is it a constant misfire? Or intermittant?

EDIT

The reason I mention plugs is because I've had this before and it turned out to be a new plug with cracks in the porcelain. I don't know if they were there before and became more evident with a couple of heat cycles or if I caused them during installation.

The multi plug that connects to the coil would be worth a closer look at ....given the probability that it has now been removed several times are any of the wire sleeves worn or split. Also is there any corrosion inside the plug ..contact cleaner spray should sort .

I chased a misfired around on my old 2.5 Elite...ended up rigging up a spark plug light onto each plug lead to check which wasn't firing correctly ...eventually traced it to a fault with # 6.

Swopped plug from # 2 to # 6 then to establish if plug or lead...guess what it was as advised above the plug and they were brand new GM

I'm a owner of a Cadillac Carter and I have similar problems.  Congratulation in solving your problem 😌. I wish I could solve mine soon.

Anyone have experience of Cambriare plug leads? Been offered a set for the V6 for just under £40, seems a bit cheap & never heard of the make, leads on the 246 bank look a bit too long but others seem ok
