General Car Chat / exhaust fumes
« on: 31 May 2013, 09:25:14 »
Hi guys

just got a vectra C estate 55 reg the revised model. the 1.9 cdti auto 150

when you turn on the heater on cold at about 2/3 speed you smell exhaust fumes quite strongly in the car, could this be a leaking manifold, any suggestions please.

We have only juts got the car so can quite easily send it back to the dealers etc car does seem a bit lumpy some times on tick over too but not all the time, runs well when moving does not smoke etc

any ideas please

« on: 30 May 2013, 09:48:26 »
just got wifey a vectra estate 1.9 diesel sri 55 reg/06 could i change the wheel from my standard 2.6 CD estate to the vectra . thats wheels and tyres

vectra wheels/tyres are 215/50/R17/91W

cant remember the omega wifey has it at the momment think they are 225/55/R16/93W

prefer the vectra wheel but have to rember this is wifeys car and the profile sticks out for some nice kerbing effect where as the omegas are slightly set back, plus wifey doont give a shite about wheels :o :D

General Car Chat / Vikings Canterbury
« on: 17 May 2013, 16:54:33 »
you may recall i took mr magoo ( the old man) to look at his second hand car B class merc, it was over priced but suited the old fella so he agreed a deal got all the bull about how vikings has 2 showrooms oh both mercedes dealers but only one is approved used mercedes so you dont get a full 12 months so old fella had to pay extra £250 to extend the warrenty for a year, bloody highway robbers.

he went to the dealers on his own to pick up the car today bearing in mind mr magoo is not as sharp as he used to be and the salesmans given him a load of rollox about scratch damage and depreciation and ended up flogging him another £700 worth of insurance which he did not need but was probably more confussed than anything.

going round later to have a read of said insurances and read what the conditions are and find a way to get his money back

then me and mr salesman will have a little chat and remind him of our previous conversation when we made the deal for the car or just paid the asking price more like, please do not confuse my dad and try to flog him anything else

Apparently the sales git sat him down and told him it was a legal requirment that he had to go through these insurances and if he did not want them he had to sign a decleration to this effect.

The old man was paying cash no finance involved ffs, fuming is not the word i would care to use

i was car shopping with mr magoo today ( the old man) as he gets a bit confussed etc so we went to viking canterbury as hes looking at a B series there well hes brought it now, hes happy with it i think, not what i would have recommended but very hard to explain things to him :D :D :D, dealer smelt a deal as this was his 3rd visit so only offered 250 off a 10k car and then took that back to extend the warrenty from 6 months to a year ffs.

anyway tried my luck at part exing the miggy thought i may at least get him 1k off nope 350 ;D ;D :o :o
made the old fella laugh anyway :D :D only took us 3 hours to buy the car ;D ;D but at least mr magoo now knows that the salesman is called richard and not chriss...chriss was the bloke at another garage.

an eventful day :D :D ;) :)

General Car Chat / going to change my name to Lucky
« on: 11 May 2013, 10:35:55 »
well it just keeps getting better

those of you that know just traded my movano for a trafic after long boring issues with seat ( going to court so it seems)

anyway brought the trafic only a year old 10k miles from a vauxhall main dealer over the internet, when it was delivered back doors were a differnt colour one had been half sprayed also a few scratches. Under the 7 day return policy distance selling etc rejected the van.

eventually they agreed to let nationwide acceident repair do what ever was required approx £1k worth plus vat :o :o fortunatley the vans never been invloved in a major shunt it was just vauxhall touched up the rear door and got the colour wrong.

bearing in mind main reason for all this fuss was you could see a different colour in the back doors so clearly underlined, confirmed to nationwide , spray both back doors :y :y

picked van up today and they have only sprayed 1 door ffs and it was the same door that vauxhall sprayed  :D :D :D looks the same as it did before.

give up, so got to go back during the week and have it out with the estimator and quality manager etc not impressed >:( >:( in fact may take some toys with me next week and throw them out my pram

General Car Chat / 15k car dilemar
« on: 03 May 2013, 21:55:02 »
if certain plans/offers come off will probably end up with about 5k a year to spend on a motor or as i see fit as long as i have a reliable prensentable car thats not to old

i could buy something right up there or something middle of the road or even had my eye on a few vectras with sensible miles around an 06 plate.

the rules would be

has to be an auto
good economy mpg tax etc
minumum age probably about 05
price wise max £10k to £15k depending what i can get approved for

my thinking to date bearing in mind i know nothing about relabilty mechanics etc so looking purley from what i consider nice or sensible bearing in mind will probably end up financing the car so the cheaper the car the more money i will pocket or the more economical the more i will make from the mileage allowance etc also will be travelling possibly up to 50k a year maybe so comfort or economy or both. what car would you go for and why please. My choices at the moment.

bmw 730d love them very comfy so so economy draw back it may be too good a car ie better than my superiors and may say hes paying m,e too much , the old green eyed monster

jag xf as above

jag x type estate economy had one before loved it

bmw 5 sport nice but may be to flashy as above

insignia estate good economy cheap second hand some bargins out there may keep a low profile with work buddies

vectra etstate had one before loved it, keeps a low profile with work buddies

audi a6 estate maybe a bit to high profile as bmw

thats a few i have been looking at part of me wants to say sod it get a flash motor its up to me what i buy and not make as much money

another sensible head buy a sort of run of the mill car without sounding like a knob keep a low profile with work buddies benifit from better economy and possible cost and make a bit more money :y

any suggestions, did think about keeping the van but if i get seen its a bit of a high profile job wont go down too well ;D ;D ;D

General Discussion Area / Greyhound Food
« on: 24 April 2013, 17:46:05 »
yes greyhound food ???

with the growing number of greyhound owners on here i wondered 1) what you fed them and 2) how often

ours is a large male he gets fed twice a day in the morning he has buiscuits/dry food and a tin of dog food early evening plus anything he can beg, rob, scronge.

Favourite food is sausage rolls, he knows when theres some in the fridge unfortunatley someone taught him to jump up and take them from thier mouth ::) ::) all went ok until the silly sod did it to wifey  :o :o not good, not good at all :-[

for the dried food i found this company very cheap MedicAnimal ltd 15kg ( huge bag) of greyhound country value is 15.50 and delivery is usaually free :y other items are quite cheap but all dried dog food seems really cheap :y
