When I was last here I had a 51 plate 2.6 MV6 auto which I maintained myself doing the timing belt, oil cooler, exhaust and alternator. Foolishly I got rid of it in favour of a Peugeot 407 Coupe which then morphed onto a 3.5l Shogun before progressing or re-gressing to a 2.7l diesel S-Type.
The S-Type is a great car, even the engine is superb if you're doing the miles but alas it has a DPF which has given me all sorts of expensive problems. It was fine while I was slecking back and forth to London each week but pootling around locally didn't do it much good. Having just cost me a grand to have a new turbo fitted amongst other things, I decided to cut my losses and get rid.
What to buy in its place? None of the boring cars of today (by boring I mean hey all look pretty much the same) floated my boat until I started looking and the Omega popped up as a possible.
So I've ended up with an 02 2.2 Sport with a great history, some scabs on the rear whel arches to sort and a new driver seat to source due to it being worn ( think it was probably previously owned by a rather portly gentleman who struggled to enter and exit the car as the door seal is worn from rubbing) but it's had a head refurb, new timing belt and water pump, recent full service and 12 months ticket with the only avisory being a tyre and needing new front disks - £750
