Omega General Help / Water in wheel well
« on: 24 March 2017, 19:20:01 »
Having spotted a screw through the middle of a front tyre on the 3.2, I took it off to put on the spare, and was horrified to find a half inch deep lake in the wheel well. Has anyone any idea where this could have got in? I can find no sign of water ingress anywhere. :-\ :-\ :-\

Omega General Help / Gearbox problem
« on: 23 March 2017, 13:27:24 »
After replacing the tthrust washer last year, the AR35 box on the TD has been fine until the last few days. Occasionally it behaves like a slipping clutch on a manual. Oil level and colour is fine. What could this be?

« on: 21 March 2017, 15:21:53 »
Has anyone got a diagram of the aircon pipework for a 3.2 please. My local stealer claims it can't find the part number of a pipe as it is unavailable ???

General Car Chat / Replacement Estate
« on: 12 March 2017, 16:51:25 »
SWMBO has I've decided that I am getting too long in the tooth to maintain my cars and am looking to replace my TD Estate with another largish petrol auto estate, and have come up with the Mondeo as a cheapish option with lots of legroom for the driver. I tried the XF Sportbrake but was not overly impressed with the stiff ride, legroom, or small load bay, I haven't driven a Mondeo yet, so would welcome any comments. I want a comfortable ride, largest engine avlbl, petrol, auto, and a large load bay to take 2 golf trolleys and bags. Used, but not more than 3 years old. Up to £20k. :y

General Car Chat / Auto question
« on: 20 February 2017, 11:02:43 »
My daughter claims that both her autos, Forester and Ranger crewcab truck, if on a steep slope, in gear with engine running, for example at traffic lights on a hill, do not roll either forward (or back), and require no brake or accelerator to hold them. Now either modern auto boxes have a sensor to lock the torque converter, or there is something wrong with both my Omegas. I suspect she is wrong, and has got used to holding them on the brakes, but please confirm.  :o

Omega General Help / PFL V FL
« on: 31 January 2017, 17:40:51 »
I realise this is probably a ridiculous question, but is it possible to retro fit a PFL centre control panel, radio, AC controls etc, in place of the ludicrously complex FL one? :-\

I assume its probably the wrong size anyway. :-\

General Discussion Area / iPhone 5s
« on: 26 January 2017, 13:42:43 »
My landline has been down for a few days and I have had to try to use my mobile in the house, which I rarely do. Unfortunately in the rooms I would like to use it there is either no signal or 1 bar, which makes conversation impossible. However much I have tried to bully Vodafone with threats to leave etc., all they will offer is a signal booster costing £60 odd which plugs in the modem and elect. socket, or upgrade to iPhone 6 upwards which can connect via wifi. Neither of these options appeal, and other providers' signals in my house are no better, I've tried them all.
Do any of the clever people on here know if there is any way I can fix my 5s to connect via wifi?

General Car Chat / Jaguar XF V8
« on: 25 January 2017, 13:08:32 »
I'm toying with the idea of getting one of these, they are quite reasonably priced used, and I have just been quoted £550 to insure one.
Any advice on the model to go for. Luxury, Premium Luxury etc., and model year? I'm looking to spend up to £25k.
Any known issues with particular models? :y

PS My low mileage 3.2 Elite will then be surplus to requirements. :y

General Car Chat / New Battery order mistake
« on: 25 January 2017, 10:19:00 »
Uncharacteristically, I ordered a new battery in a hurry online without first looking at reviews of the company. It turns out that they are somewhat dodgy, going by Trustpilot reviews. They happily took my Paypal payment, but I have not received any dispatch advice or other communication, and am unable to contact them by phone. I am not  concerned about the money, as I can claim a refund via Paypal if it doesn't turn up. Just annoyed as I would like to have this fitted before going on my warm winter holiday. ::)
For info this is the company: http://www.autopointcarparts.co.uk/

General Car Chat / New battery
« on: 20 January 2017, 19:07:52 »
My old GM battery on the TD is getting tired, but I see it was fitted on the 5th Feb. 2010, so its done well, as the car is used mainly for short journeys. Ordered a 100AH Exide for £80, with 4-year warranty. :y

Omega General Help / Coolant system flush
« on: 20 January 2017, 18:50:34 »
My TD heater could be hotter, and clearly needs a flush, (The rad had a good flush through about 18 months ago while it was off), but I CBA at this time of year to remove pipes to do it properly. Can anyone recommend a good product to put in the system for a few days to remove some of the gunge. Or shall I just buy one of the "Mask the problems and sell your car" products from the factors? :-\ :y

General Discussion Area / Marriage allowance
« on: 17 January 2017, 18:48:53 »
As we approach the end of the tax year, the information in this link may be of some interest: https://www.gov.uk/marriage-allowance/how-it-works
Basically, if one partner earns less than £11k and the other less than 43K, the first can pass some of their tax allowance to the second. Its worth about £200 a year, and can be backdated to the previous year. ::)

General Car Chat / Runway Enduro 926
« on: 16 January 2017, 16:42:48 »
I have just removed a pair of these from the front of my TD Estate. They had only done 7500 miles, were evenly worn, had at least another 4k left, but were wandering all over the place. The previous version, 916, was a much better tyre on the Omega, and a pair did 13k with no issues. Tyre man tells me that the 916 tread has been around fro 30 years or so. Why fix it when it ain't broken? >:(
I've fitted a pair of Rainsport 3's, which feel nicely planted, for now! :y
