Auto to manual conversion?
« on: 18 July 2006, 14:00:04 »

If i was considering converting a 2.5 auto to a manual box, what would i need to be doing(other than buying a box, pedal box assembly and a gear lever assembly) Would i need to disconnect the autobox ecu & throw it onto ebay and would i need to replace the EM ecu? Is it worth the effort? This is based around a 97 tourer estate, so not worth a lot to start with. What do you think? Only considering this as a manual would probably burn less petrol

Would it make enough difference in consumption to be worth the cost and effort?

A lot of work - also autobox ECU sort of talks to engine ECU and you will get errors on the MID

As to value - easier to buy a manual

Mid needs re-programming (or a wire shorting out) Engine loom needs a minor mod (ECU doesn't need touching) you need a spiggot bearing and dual mass fly wheel (auto has a pressure plate). Prop is different I think.....

Different brake fluid header tank, clutch master cylinder required.......big job realy.

if DTM said its a big job, i must be a HUGE job.

The ones he says are easy 5 mins take the rest of us most of the day to do!! lol

As for the cost saving issues? Bah nothing in it tbh.

I only average about 2mpg more than my dads car, both facelift 2.2's

His averages around 32mpg (auto) , mine does around 34.

Doesn't the Engine have an additional Needle Bearing on the crank if in Manual Trim?
