Title: electric seat swapping
Post by: ChrisPee on 25 April 2018, 21:18:34
Hi, firstly I did go through a few threads regarding seats, but I couldn't quite find the answer to my problem, so apologies in advance if you've heard this one before.

I have a 98 Select estate with two non-working electric front seats. The drivers seat is from a later car as far as I can tell. I have bought a full interior from a 98 Elite and want to know if I can swap like for like regards the wiring. I realise the rear seat will probably be impossible to modify, but I'll cross that bridge later. Can anyone tell me what I need to do this swap. Or have a made a big mistake?  ???

Thanks in advance - Chris.

The front seats should be a straight swap '98-'98...

If the rear Elite seats are from a saloon then you'll be pissing in the wind trying to get them to fit...  :y

Thanks, is the wiring all compatible then? Just an out with the old / in with the new and plug them straight in job?
I realise the rear seat is a challenge but I'll see what I can do with that later.

Thanks for the reply.

I realise the rear seat is a challenge but I'll see what I can do with that later. will never fit. Ever. I would go as far as saying that I will give birth and change my name to Queenie before it happens without significant structural changes such as welding the back of a saloon inside your boot ;)

Thanks for the reply.
Wiring should be plug and play, provided you already have electric height adjusters, and ideally the heated seat wiring, although this might not actually be fitted to the car...

And is rear seats are from an estate, plug and play again if you got the relay loom, and the switches and their facia.

Well I know it's been a while, but, I fitted the passenger seat in about 15 mins, but there is an issue with the drivers' seat. The black plug and another plug shown in the pic of the maintenance guide is missing on my drivers seat. I poke to the guy who I bought the interior from as he still has the remains of the car. He has sent me a pic of the wiring in question but he says it's part of the loom. Can someone please advise me how to get around this? Thanks in advance. By the way, mine is a 97 and the donor car is 98.

Chris.

If your original seats have electric height adjustment then you only need the mod in the guide.

Your original seats may also be lacking side airbags and pretensioners... Two yellow plugs. In which case simply swap the seat belt buckles from your original seats and call it done. Might take some explaining to get it MoTd with unwired/display only side airbags :-X

Other plug that is probably missing is for the heated seats... Again, if you can't plug it in, it won't be working ;)
