Back to the point, mum (87 and still driving okay) has been quoted £400 to insure her P reg Seat Ibiza.

Depends where you live,  doesn't help that I've got a Birmingham Post code.

If I lived 2 miles north I would be paying about the same as your mom.

My Father in law said he would stop driving as soon as he reached 80 years of age, he had always had powerful vehicles Jaguar, Aston Martin etc. He did so true to his word and if he needed transport we always obliged, I will definitely do the same as I think it's a very sensible decision.

That's the reason I took the ROSPA advanced driving test to make sure I was still capable and able to drive safely.

I passed at gold standard, but that means 'f' all to the insurance companies.

If I had failed, I would most certainly have given up my car.

Unfortunately, I am grouped into the doddering old farts that definitely shouldn't be on the road.

Some insurance companies won't quote you over the age of 80.

Those that do, on the comparison sites, quote anything from £800+ to £3500.

I've got full no claims,  and a ROSPA gold advanced driving certificate (which they don't recognise).

The premiums for the old and cautious tend to mirror the premiums for young and foolish.

I wonder if this is fair.

I currently occupy  the bit in the middle, so affordable (for now) :)

Yup, I'm quickly getting priced off the road.
Can I have your Astra?   :)

No.

More Than and Direct Line declined to quote.

In 5 years my insurance has gone by £400.

Haven't had a claim for over 20 years, and that wasn't my fault.

People doing 40 in a NSL zone >:(

Wucking fankers.

Mind you, the V8 dispatches such frustrations with a lovely burble >:D

It wasn't me, I never go above 35.

From what've heard it beats the alternative  :y

Depends if you are living or merely existing.

Many old people are dragging their battered corpse like bodies around for years. What is the point. :)

Fortunately, I don't resemble that remark.

Car insurance has gone up by over £200.

Still slightly cheaper than anything on the comparison sites.

General Car Chat / Smart mot
« on: 14 July 2023, 18:31:00 »
If you want your cartoon pass the MOT use smart mot.

Neighbour used them, they collect and return your car.

It went for an MOT with front sidelight not working, and rear brake lights not working.

Neighbour was assured bulbs would be replaced.

Car passed the MOT - front and rear bulbs still not working.

She only got charged for the MOT.

So, if you know your car is going to fail, use smart mot.

Saw an advert about how the global shipping industry is a mahoosive contribution to climate change, and that the solution is to build more energy efficient ships powered by wind or hydrogen or solar power...

Er no, how about not transporting ship loads of crap around the world to begin with. ???

They'll be bringing horse drawn barges back on the canals soon then, and banning lorries.

To keep up with the modern trend I now identify as a lazy old git!

By the way, in case you haven't heard, all the pupils of the school where they identify as cats have been suspended.

The reason, the school still has a mice problem!
What's that got to do with EV's? Silly old duffer  ;D

Well, I could have mentioned Fish and Chips, more interesting than EV's.

Surely they're going to encourage drivers to concentrate on their speedometer rather than the road.

Just a thought.

Sort of like me staring at my MPG reading in the 3.2!

 ;D ;D ;D
