I should add, it's been like that for about a month now, only doing short journeys.

I'm reasonably confident with it.
:y

If doing just short journeys, esp now its got darker, wetter and colder, it might be worth regularly keeping it topped up.

Don't worry, I intend to.

I will add, an 18 hole golf trolley battery that would barely last for 9 holes, lasted another 18 months after reconditioning.
I didn't know you were a golfist, AA. Bit of a posh bastid are we?  ;D

Oi! Less of the posh!

Haven't played golf for nearly 10 years now.  :P

If you report something to your insurance company, whether you make a claim or not, it is logged against you as being accident prone.

Both mine and Mrs AA's cars are being advertised anything from £3000 - £5000 more that we paid for them.

Mrs AA's 11 months ago, mine 6 months ago.

That's not the attitude at all, AA. You must buy a new battery...and don't forget to service your car every 5000 miles.....and buy new tyres as soon as the tread gets to 5mm.  ;D

 ;D ;D

Start saving up for that £140, as what you have done is at best a short term solution.

On the plus side, you car is kept in a warm garage overnight, which means it doesn't need to be at its peak.  Downside is its more likely to catch you out if you stay away overnight....

If you have a drop tester, disconnect the battery again and test it :y

Done that, it passes the test with flying colours :y

General Car Chat / Reconditioning an AGM battery.
« on: 10 October 2021, 10:09:29 »
My car battery would not charge above 11,7/11,8 volts with the alternator going flat out at 14.6 volts.

Took it off the car and charged it in recovery mode on my Stop/Start smart charger.

After it had finished it's cycle, I put it on auto charge.

Battery is now holding at 12,7/12,8 volts with the alternator only cutting in periodically.

Saved me about £140 for a new battery.

Dead chuffed.

According to auto trader, £8,200 private sale, £7,350 trade in, so the markup for the dealer is almost £1,700, or nearly 20%!

They have to pay VAT and give a warrantee and pay staff. I'm surprised it's only 20% markup.
Hmmm......I suppose when you look at the overheads......it makes me look like a moany old bastid  ;D
I'm not, but you knew that already.  ::)

Less of the moany ;)

I've had no trouble accessing OOF.......with my 4G signal from THREE in the wilds of North Yorkshire  ;D ;D
I suspect they were mis-routing you somewhere then, as the OOF Webserver only had limited, intermittent internet access between about 1pm and 3:30pm
I was out then;D

,,,but the light was on....

If you pay for porn using your CC details, these dubious sites sometimes sell on your details. Stop it, you dirty old man.  ;D

Really? Well I didn't know that.

I presume you found that out by experience/ :D

A company called ParcelHero took a small amount out of my credit card, never heard of them till yesterday.

Bank has refunded the money and issued me with a new Credit Card.

Research on the net shows them to be a dubious courier company.

Anyone had any dealing with them.

Haven't a clue how they have got hold of my Credit Card details.
