Omega General Help / Re: Steering Idler
« on: 20 July 2017, 08:55:18 »
Has anyone noticed that even with brand new bushing, before tightening it in place, there is some noticeable slack?

I have tried few years ago and couple of months ago again with two brand new bushings (Febi) and same thing both times. There is about 1-2 mm free movement between the shaft and bushing. Should it be like this or is my shaft worn down so much?

Mine was 13 mm on 2.2 petrol. Dunno is there different sizes on different motors..

There's some genuine cat's, not for Y/Z22XE but some of those seems to be same looking as on Y/Z22XE engine.
Could it be possible to modify one of those to fit?

Petrol 2.2 engines are Y22XE and Z22XE, both belt driven. Z22XE fitted to 2000-02(?) -> later models.

EGR is located on cylinder head, between firewall and cylinder head on Z22XE, dunno is it same on Y22XE. So there is no place for EGR valve on exhaust manifold.

Checked mine today and here is the result ;D

Wow, that's like 14,1 litres/100km.. And I thought mine 9,8 l/100km was high (has been at 8,9 l/100km lowest with just motorway driving)  ::)

"Although hot and pressurised slowly unscrewed cap not fully just enough to let it breathe and all of a sudden tank filled up with coolant?.. "

That doesn't sound like a leak to me, if tank really filled up to it's original level?

Could it just be that due to overheating, coolant liquid boils causing tank to appear empty, and when opening the cap pressure releases and allows coolant to fill tank up again?

Could it be ceased up thermostat or old coolant liquid causing the overheating, or even defected water pump?

I've got similar symptoms (and similar car) with power lose, but only once a month or so. For me, driving with my own leg (not with cruise control I mean ;) ) the car feels to shut down or something, drive just stops for a second and then comes back and drives normally. No codes after that showing. My bet is that there is something wrong with wiring's or connectors between throttle body and pedal.

For high idle, again, I had same symptoms. It was caused by cracked exhaust manifold and leaking pipe joint after 2nd lambda. Fixing those fixed hanging revs, especially when cold engine.

When I last had the MOT done in March there was an advisory. Rear Exhaust has a minor leak of exhaust gases (7.1.2). If this got worse could it be causing the high revs?

Don't know, but i quess that if only the rear exhaust has a leak, it should not mess up the idle. Mine was just near 2nd lambda and it really made idle messy.

I bet that if you take off the exhaust manifold cover there is a big crack on manifold (if still original). That wont show on MOT, or at least not at my case, but will cause revs to hang.

Does anyone know where I could find DMF for Z22XE ?

I've been looking for months, all I have discovered is that LuK does not make it anymore.

Amazon, ebay, all car part online stores, etc. seem to be full of them, but when you place the order they say "Sorry, part is unavailable for now. Here's your money back."

Tried couple of used ones, one was as defected as my current one and other was welded solid..

I do know where to get genuine one, it's from local Opel dealer. Price is about half of my car, 1200 euros.
On the places mentioned earlier, they used to sell it for 300-600 euros..

Mole grips are illadvised as they can break the pulleys...

Usage of the common sense is crucial when using advanced methods like that  ;)

For me, there were not even a scratch on pulleys surface when I removed those grips. But I sure understand that if someone with too much power and too little sense uses that method, will sure deform or even crack the pulleys. In that case, it would be best just to focus only to oil change operations and leave all the rest to mechanician  ::)

Waterpump is essential on the 2.2 as it's what tensions the belt :y

Well there you go, I must have completely mis-remembered how the timing belt goes on, thought there was a separate tensioner.  :-\

Going senile in my 30's - not a good sign

Umm.. There sure is a tensioner.. At least I have.

Yep, it was purrrfect  8)
Of course it was adjusted just as tight that it could hold wheels still, not to bend them out of shape  ::)

Have you already checked what codes it gives? And tried to clear them after checking?
