Headlight Query
« on: 12 January 2019, 18:28:36 »

I have been having problems with the drivers side dip beam, so decided to check it today. The circled one is what the query is about. Is this the correct one for Halogen, how does the H1 bulb fit and stay in if it is, I have a black ring but the bulb doesn't fit it falls straight through, so rigged up somehing to hold the bulb in it. There is a brown and yellow cable with spade connectors on. Brown for earth yellow live but nothing to fit the earth to, so had to make a patch cable up. The person who owned it before me did the bodge, The headlight switch has headlight height adjustment, not like the one I had on my old 2003 cdx which were self levelling. The previous owner had fitted a H1 Bulb into it I just tidied it up.

It is a 2002 CD
Thanks for any help.

Label on top of the unit will tell you  :y

Looks like a xenon unit... Suspect that the label says D2S on it... Black ring locks the xenon bulb in place.

As it sits, not suitable for a CD spec car...

Thanks Dr Gollum for the reply. No labels on it. So would a CD just be Halogen? The beam pattern seems ok as it passed MOT, just it doesn't look bright on that side. Looks like I need a Halogen Drivers side unit :'(

Is there a red seal there, and also 3 torx screws to get the cover off?  If so, your unit in HID, not Halogen.

With HID, you will have a thick black cable that has a bayonet fitting to bulb, other end goes to a metal ballast pack about the size of 2 fag packets - these gives the high voltage needed to strike the arc, and keep it burning. And will properly hurt if you touch it with it on.

HIDs were never an option on CDs, but some morons retrofitted them to their cars.

TheBoy there is no seals, the red circle is done by me.  The unit is exactly the same as the photo, but has two wires going to it they are yellow and brown.  Have looked on ebay, and the same unit is being sold as Halogen, so I wander if a previous owner bought the unit thinking it was Halogen to replace the damaged drivers side one, then bodged it to make it work?

This what I mean, this is being sold as halogen

That's a STD headlight,, look closer,. No igniter box, and the hole will take a H bulb. There should be a metal clip attached to the back of the bezel, that hooks into the bottom of the bezel. The clip is missing.

It also has the screw hole for the covers and slots for the box... Also wiring connection is missing two pins ;)

All genuine Hella lamps for omega use the same case, I've changed a STD halogen to a hid, by putting Hid reflector in,
All parts are interchangeable. Got another one to do, but that's just a straight swap over and fit ally adjuster.

That picture is of a standard headlight.projector type as should be fitted to most cd models. From the ebay advert.
Can you put a picture of your actual headlamp so we can see what’s missing .if yours hasn’t got the correct aperture for the bulb then it may be a hid headlamp that’s been fitted by mistake.

In the photo the moulding stamp is pointing at 08-442-1115R, does that tell us anything.  :-\

Advert example is misleading... It shows a facelift lamp but describes it as 1994-1998 ::)

From the number above...

https://www.autodoc.co.uk/abakus/8356453

Pattern shite...

Genuine ones are labeled with all the relevant bulbs.

And the real McCoy...

I had originally presumed that it was the one shown, (which is also incomplete), but looking at the ebay link, it clearly is the same unit.

Can't be any clearer :y

Main beam is H7 with two wire plug.
Dipped beam is H1 with single wire plug and spade terminal to reflector lens.  ;)

If yours looks anything like the ebay link, then it's wrong.
