Quite depressing really. As I said before Britain needs an effective opposition to rein inThe Tories.

Be careful what you wish for......
When you've got a majority such as the Tories have, no one can 'rein in'.

Fortunately it is the way British politics works. Otherwise , for example , once Labour got in with Blair at the helm, they would still be at  the helm with say Corbyn at the wheel. The opposition highlights flaws in policy of the sitting government and the public make note for the upcoming election. No effective opposition , no change.

Upcoming election? In 2024? Get real.

I didn’t specify a date. It was to illustrate a principle.

Or you could have a one party system.....;D

I would like to see the death of Labour and other left wing parties and have the Tories ( who are no longer right wing anyway) in power with a party similar to Brexit / UKIP in opposition to keep them on their toes.

We are very lucky that Labour had an extreme and polarising figure like JC as their leader during the last few years.  :y

Had Labour had a leader who Jo Swinson and Nicola Sturgeon/Ian Blackford could have worked with to form a government, they would have called a vote of no confidence back in September, which the Tories would have very probably lost and we would have voted in a Second Referendum in December rather than a GE.  ::)

I bet Swinson is absolutely kicking herself now that she didn't try harder to cut some sort of deal with Corbyn along the lines of a time limited government formed specifically to deliver a Second Referendum, followed shortly after by a GE. ::)  And although I'm sure that the SNP were demanding a Section 30 order for their IndyRef2 as a condition for their support, I think if push came to shove they'd have gone along with the plan rather than be seen as the stumbling block to the so called Peoples Vote!  ;)

Lucky escape, and we should probably thank Mr Corbyn!  :y

I see Momentum is endorsing Long Bailey. This is excellent news, she is described as Corbyn's protege and will keep the party well to the left.  :)

I read that the unions are leaning towards Lisa Nandy.  They'll be fighting like rats in a sack!  ;D

LB doesn't look much like a lesbian socialist. Almost looks (but does not sound) like posh totty.

One union is. The biggest, unison, is backing Kier Starmer.

Flipping burgers in McDonalds would prove too much for her. She is thick as pigshite. She is married to a millionaire though, who ironically, has links to the fracking industry.
