used to have a Fiat 500  - max speed about 50-60 mph, you tried not to slow for bends as it took to long to get up to speed. But was good in summer on M1 - set throttle by hand, roll sunroof back, feet up on dashboard- 55 downhill less uphill -- mind you was a genuine Fiat500 - not one of these front wheel drive thingies

Quite agree about the 'Donors'  which I am registered for, but as with everything we do - risk assessment which can vary according to the circumstances etc.
I personally cannot go onto the roof of a house - as I start to shake - but am happy above 30m  ( but can't see the stones on the floor from up there)

Problem with riding a bike is the other idiots on the road, 25 yrs ago when commuting 60m per day , it was normal to have a change of underpants on average once a week , nowadays I reckon would be more often ( due to people not looking, not signalling, strange number plates, less bikes on road etc. etc.), but mine is now a week end plaything ( and uses same mpg as the Polo and works van - but brings a smile to my face)

I use the Shell posh stuff on my bike ( but is only 3 gallons at en though have a time) ; shell cooking fuel for the car; even though have ASDA nearby, but they don't like my new debit card without the swipe- so I rather go to the local shell garage even though it costs a little more. don't use the posh diesel from shell - use the cheapy one in the van.  But last time was at a fuel depot - with the brand  named and supermarket tankers coming in - they use the same loading bay but the  posh ones have the extra additives.

I used to get lost in MK, when I lived in Bletchley!  and it's changed in the last 17 years since I left

I too am Omegaless, but inherited my aunts Polo with 35000 on the clock, so have gone and got a Suzuki Hayabusa ( bit more than a mid-life crisis- also has the advantage that the missus won't go on the back :Dhttp://images.omegaowners.com/forum/smf2000/Smileys/oofstd/cheesy.gif

mix the oil with creosote ( the proper stuff!) - diesel is blacker so is better - assuming you want dark fence

We had civilian police office  staff officer round last weekend - interviewing a collission report; out of him personally investigating 493 collissions this year - we were the 3rd english person of those , the remainder being of other EU nationalities.

Several of the Fuel storage depots have all sorts of tescos, shell ,asda, morisons etc wagons turning up - using the same loading bays - but am told the 'cheaper' asda type fuels are just about within spec, whearas the premium fuels have a bit more of the good additives in them. however I would only consider buying a premium diesel in a cold winter (and hopefully not waxing up) .

General Car Chat / finally getting around to do an engine swap
« on: 26 October 2015, 13:33:04 »
At long last after buying a 2.5 tourer ( MFL?) with the intention of putting engine into my dead CDX, i have now retired the old bus.

silencers and cats off - (cats are better than the other pair)

then gearbox ( manual out)
then remove engine ( after removing aircon stuff etc. out of the way )
change oil cooler and anything else I feel like when have got easy access
then remove dead engine , fit 'new' engine
swap several bits from one to the other, sell off bits people might want , scrap old bus.

hopefully shouldn't take too long ( 4 years so  far , but it kept passing MOT, and its cold in the rain)

whats all this talk of cleaning engine?   next will be expected to wash the outside and vacuum the inside - door sills make a good weir.

General Car Chat / MOT Passed ! surprisingly
« on: 03 July 2015, 21:52:47 »
Amazingly my S reg estate passed MOT on Thursday ( I didn't think it was due until September) , for a total cost of £275 including 2 partworn on front - which means have now got to get front suspension sorted then WIM, and new tyres all round. ( easier than transplanting engine into my dead omega - which is why I bought it in the first place as a donor 3-4 years ago- but keeps passing mot) :)

General Discussion Area / Re: Selling rules - 250 posts.

I'm below the 250 posts required, and if I have a useful comment on the help section - invariably I find that someone has beaten me to reply (usually in a more knowledgebly manner, (becos am iggerant)) , but the guides are excellent varying from stripdown to normal servicing niggle.  so in conclusion OOF is one of the best , but sadly omegas are dying off, and I still haven't got around to swapping engine from my tourer into my FL CDX - basically it still passes mot ( but has 1.4 corsa"s plates on back)
