Will Omega wheels fit on a Vectra?
« on: 22 May 2019, 22:34:57 »

I haven't yet even sat in a Vectra, but I am considering buying one and have many old Omega wheels fitted with good tyres. Would they fit a Vectra?

I'd expect that wheel offset would be different.

Yes, but I wouldn't do it. Will upset the handling something rotten.   Different offset. DG will be along to explain better.

I know the offset is quite different, so your mileage may vary.

I seem to recall Vectra tyres sizes are "odd" compared to what we are used to on our Omegas.

the offset is virtually the same
Vec c is ET35 ish (depending on the wheel)
omega ET 35-37 ish (depending on the wheel)
so 2mm ET will not make much difference
I doubt Terry will be doing land speed record attempts  ;D
I had wolfrace et35 vectra rims on my carlton without issue @ speed for 2 years
It really depends on what wheels we are talking about AND tyre sizes
195/65/15 on steel wheels ET 35 (omega spare wheel) for example
if the tyres are good, it may be worth swapping to vectra alloys
if the tyres are old or the wheels and tyres are way off size wise ,just sell them and buy vectra ones
plenty of people buying used wheels and alloys on ebay, friend face, gumtree etc

Much to my surprise i quite like my Vectra. Hated it at first but that was because i had autos for a few years so had to find out what that extra pedal on the left was for. ;D. Whether it,s a keeper remains to be seen. ???

Trouble now is Andy that autos of the year i was looking for (07/08,09) are mostly going over to those soft cheese DSG types with their inherent reliability issues. The torque converter ones for sale round my way at the time were nearly as old as my Desmond, (02-04) but higher miles and still dearer that what i paid for the Vectra. Will be surprised if i still have it in two years time but will make a good stop gap until i find something that i really fancy. I,m in no rush and the guy i bought it from has just put it through the Mot for me too. Passed, just needed droplinks which he did Tuesday.

Ironically my Smart has just been recovered home this afternoon (broke down on the way to work this morning .... used holidays to leave early to sort recovery)
I've a feeling it's gearbox related as one of the codes implies lack of communication with the gearbox  :-\

Because DMF's, release bearings, slave, cylinders, master cylinders, bearings in the box and the clutch NEVER fail and NEVER cost thousands to replace?

Wonder if anyone with an M32 gearbox will agree it doesn't needs a head-spinning cross inserting green puke removing priest?

And back to the original question, not with Omega tyres, Vectra 17s were 215 or 225 width as OEM, the Omega tyres will make it handle worse than it does  :D

He's used to driving everywhere at a constant 64-66mph in his truck, or at 30mph in his omega (bits fall off if you go much faster), so it will seem like a rocket ship.  :y

The posh Vectra, is only A 2.0t but allegedly puts out sufficient donkeys, yes it does only have 2pedals as all vehicles should, and it's finished in a nice shade of GM's finest rare silver.  It will also comfortably attain the speed limit. :)

The 64 - 66mph trucks are the Irish ones cruising down the M6 in no particular hurry.  ;)

It all depends on what wheels and tyres Terry actually has  :-\
ET is usually stamped or cast on the wheel
tyre size is usually on the black rubber part
 ;D :D
I never thought of loooking for data on the wheels. Cast on the back of the wheels on the spokes I find K835E INTRA 70645 S363E17, and around the wheels bolt holes DB KE TM XP.

I have in the past used old Senator wheels on Omegas without problem, and used the steel spares similarly, though I did find some Carlton wheels too small to fit over the brake calipers. Assuming they are all 5 bolt wheels, my concern was bolt hole location and central hole size. Basically, will they bolt on a Vectra or not?

you're looking for numbers that are more like 6J17 ET34, which is probably marked near the rim. That gives the width, diameter and offset which together define how well the wheel fits. 5 stud Vx wheels will work, and you can measure the centre hole.

Getting the offset wrong will do weird things to the steering geometry, assuming that they clear everything. As this lot is from your stash, I doubt they'll work very well, and would be very suspicious of the tyre condition as well. A trip to the dump is what I would suggest.
