General Car Chat / Tow Car
« on: 22 July 2014, 20:51:06 »
well the past two years i've been busy building an Airstream Travel trailer into a Burger stand, She is now finished and i need a car/van/truck that will tow it, it's rated at 3 ton and weighs in at 2 empty and the nose weight is large! anyone got any thoughts on what to tow it with, i'm leaning towards a zj jeep or a land rover disco, although this needs to be a cheap tow wagon and you don't find land rovers cheap over here

I've got rust starting on the top of the chassis rail under the abs pump? m.o.t guy hasn't spotted it yet hopefully he won't this year either!! maybe when i get around to doing the cracked manifold swap (after 2 years!) i may address this issue! the one that really gets on my tits is the spot under the rear washer on the tailgate as that one will probably be a window out job! oh well don't know how long the old girls got left in her  although just did a 2000km roundtrip to Croatia and she didn't miss a beat.

i think with a four pot you have a little more lee-way as in you can slip a tooth and will still get away with it

need to change the motor, the long stroke 2.2 won't do a turbo well, i really want to do this also but in all honesty the car is just so heavy iw ould rather buy an old saab turbo and put my money into that

Omega General Help / Re: New wheels, but can't get old off??
« on: 06 January 2014, 18:46:19 »
I thought that the torque figure was for dry studs. If lubricated wont they tighten passed the recommended figure

it's recommended to oil studs with thin oil but this won't effect the torque value, the problem with over torqueing is you stretch the stud losing the tensile spring in it.

could it have slipped a tooth on the cam belt? when you start it at night and look under the bonnet can you see anything shorting out under there, i run my 2.2 on crappy 95 austrian fuel and have never had a problem, i would be suprised if the gas caused this.

we had an Audi in the shop a few months back which we had to weld bolts onto every security nut to get them off and even then they took 1 1/2 hours of pain to get them off, i swear by a bit of copper grease or high heat aluminium grease on the hubs and studs, makes my life easier next time the car comes in, this is just pure idiots with ratchet guns and more often than not the last workshop they were at would be the dealers charging them €120 an hour. I know most dealers are the same but VW gets my Goat!!! rip off bastards don't buy one (rant over!)

Omega General Help / Re: placing an amp
« on: 03 January 2014, 19:02:47 »
Just make sure your scuttle stays clear though....unless you like replacing Amps.

good point, measured it up today and it's tight but i think i can make it work and then build a cover for the front of it as the wiring would be in view

Omega General Help / placing an amp
« on: 02 January 2014, 12:50:13 »
Hello all, anyone know if there would be enough room under the backseat to place an amp, i've bought an amp which measures 48x27x5cm and it wo'nt fit under the front seat and i really don't want to put it in the boot so if anyone knows if it would fit under the rear seat without me having to take it out! it would be appreciated,
thanks,
Rich
