The contrast of the red against the black on the Golf makes the red stripe stand out far more, with it also facing forward giving a block of colour. The stripe you have added to your grill is more difficult to see because of the angle and also the brightness of the silver surround - it draws the eye far more than the red.

However, the red stripe may well make people stop and look again having only caught a quick glimpse - because it's not obvious initially.

The most important opinion is your own though, if you like it then keep it on.
