« on: 02 April 2018, 16:26:51 »What are the recommendations on rust treatments I treated a small section on my wheel arch about 6 months ago and the rust is showing through again. I used Loctite rust remedy and cleaned as much rust off as possible.I know cut out the area and weld but this is a very small section.
Usually for small sections that aren't rotten just lightly grind off the rust with a grinder flapper disc, treat with a good rust treatment product, then wash down with clean water, thinners and apply a good few coats of primer and finish with top coat and lacquer. Usually it will come back in time though. I do find the more coats of primer the better. I've been doing repairs on a project I have stored up and one bit I had put about 5 coats of primer on new metal, the other bit only one coat, the one coat bit was rusting after a couple of months. The other bit was fine. Mind you primer is not waterproof so get a top coat on as quick as you can if you are using car out and about.

Seen yestetday about half 4, Westbound at glasgow airport. It was a bit ahead and i was turning off a737, but managed to see it was 03 plate, looked good nick likely a cd model.

Well done that guy, hlights far too bright on a lot of cars, you can actually feel a laser focused pain to the back of eye with dazzle from these lights.

The plug that goes onto the maf (i think) was broke, i knew about this but it still slotted it quite firmly, is now tie wrapped tight into the plug & loanbehold the light on dash (eml) is now out!

If my understanding is correct aren't road surfaces about 90% rough aggregate, shredded glass and the tar is just a "glue" to hold it all together. I think they might be using cornflakes and weetabix as the aggregate now!

Its not even just potholes, whole roads are wearing away because they dont use high quality tar and relaying procedures, they just rough the surface up and put a light skim of crumble mix over the top. The stones are tiny in it, they wash out and cars goin over them doesn't help, add in rain, frost and all the rest and you end up with the old road surface "resurfacing" after a couple of months.
Also have you noticed how many blocked drains there are. The councils dont clean em anymore, they dont sweep the gutters in autumn either, adding to the blockage problem.

That is the pipe that comes along the middle of the banks and plugs up the way into the body, if so yes I've checked all the vac lines all around there and on the multi-ram bits as well.

Anyway, as well as the above suggestions, look for split pipes (air to plenum) and split vacuum pipe end. Also, it is worth checking the throttle body to see if it's gunked up.
It's no prblem i know where it is. I just put that all back together last year after doing timing belt. Everything looks fine but will check agsin. If i dont see anything obvious what is next step with maf?
if you had the tech, tools and experience you could examine how well it is functioning.
As you don't have those, disconnect the electrical connector on the MAF, and drive the car. This will put the EML on, but if the actual problem is no longer present then buying a quality new MAF is your next step.
But you're already breaking the first rule of diagnosis by not going back over the work you did before the fault.
If you mean the timing belt work, that was done about a year ago and have checked this area multiple times, and once more tonight.
Going by this advice I unplugged the maf multi plug (the one under the left air intake bagpipe thing right?) and the car struggled to start and when it did the gearbox seemed to lock into a high gear and it wouldn't move. So I guess that didn't work either. I then plugged it back in and the car ran fine.
I have a friendly contact in the AA who has said that he can check it. I don't know if this will give a diagnosis or just codes, but it won't hurt, my 2nd option is a guy who does tech2 near Glasgow. I will take it there and see what if anything they can find as this is doing my brain in now.

Currently the draft shows an EML lit as a major fail.
There is nothing in the MOT manual that requires or allows connection to an OBD port so I'd be having a word if they tried that on my car. It's possible that emissions testers designed for the european market have the interface fitted but it's not used in a UK MOT test.
This has been a fail point for a while. People used to take the bulb out to get through mot.
