that is nice on an 02 plate too, 38k so same situation you are in with your new one - due a major service and that cambelt/ tensioner.

agree about the colour, in my opinion silver and black are the dogs dangly bits  :)

It was the mileage that drew me to  the car... but silver was always in my head.

trust me, its one of the easier jobs in the engine bay. I reckon Marks_DTM/RMcB could do a 2.6 in 30mins...

(including a tea break ;))

I was planning to travel to Northampton yesterday to view this -

Apart from the colour coz I prefer silver looked a good buy but somebody beat me too it.

so that leaves you £400 better off

£100 belt, tensioners

£3 cam belt change dvd

£297 for beer  :D

even going to a reputable garage should see you better off (well it would up here)  if you are not happy doing it yourself.

My local dealer quoted me £425 all in last year when i had the same done on the car i have at the moment.. can't have gone up that much so... i'll leave it with my dealer coz I'm rubbish at fixing) Instead I'll sit in the pub while they are doing it, won't have as much to spend on the beer but i know the car will run when i get it back...lol.

AA offer extra warranty for approx £65 I might consider it for peace of mind.

Dave.

The seller has just informed me RV did not change the belt etc because it was under warranty and on the last service they believe it was  ok when viewed and should be now. Why they didn't advise the owner puzzles me.
The seller was amazed at this and has offered me the car for £5100 without a cam kit and water pump. I've accepted as i think it's a fair deal.

The repairs will be done as soon as i pick it up. (feel abit dodgy driving it home now)

I have been thinking about this all morning, the car is immac and as done only 51k before the cambelt  was even considered the guy only wanted £5,500 because he basically is changing to a new car and trade in was much less, he has promised the car is mine either way but if for some reason  the dealer faulted (which we both doubt but you never know) and we are not sure at this time, the seller will have a new belt/tensioners etc  fitted and sell for the same price, I will pay for a water pump at the same time as it is being fitted to be on the safe side.

Thanks all i will advise the seller of the same and ask him to contact his dealer RV and try and obtain written proof, if for some RV can't produce the document I won't purchase the car.

thanks again

Omega General Help / service advice  Omega 2003 2.6 auto saloon

Hi all, i went to view a omega(private sale) 2.6 cdx 2003 today, the car is upto date with all service stamps from a vaux dealer and the last was done in july 2006.
The car todate as covered 51000 miles.
Now the seller who has owned the car from new is not sure if the cambelt/tensioners etc have been changed, he believes it has because if it should have been surely vauxhall would have done it, but he was never given any paperwork from the dealer to support this (now the owner believes it should be changed at 80k) but the majority say 40k is it 40k or 80?

I have heard somewhere vauxhall revised this - they did suggest 80k but reverted back to 40k  does anybody have a web link regarding this?

Why would the dealer service department not give the customer a service worksheet copy surely this would make life easier for the seller and make life alot simpler for the buyer? any ideas.

I did advise the seller to contact the dealer ... they must have the car on file and surely they must have a record of all jobs done.
Any advice is much appreciated.
Dave.

Omega General Help / central locking motor removal - how easy?
« on: 11 September 2006, 11:56:38 »
Hi all,2001 model drivers door( sometimes works then it won't), removed all panels.. is it just the screws on the outer door edge holding it in place. still seems to be very tight for hand access.

Problem sorted.. 1 of the sensor wires on the exhaust system not sure how it was missed by vaux but replaced it and the dreaded light is out.. vaux kindly gave me a free diagnostic test so can't really complain.

Now i can move onto my heater problem and that lazy central locking motor on the drivers door. (keeping me busy anyway) lol.

Thanks all for your help
Dave.

We could work through the issues first ;) - there are a couple of multimeter measurements to take.

The EML comes on for a reason, so its worth trying to resolve...

I thought it was the emissions light that was on  :-/

It's the yellow/amber coloured engine icon on the dashboard which is lit the icon above the handbrake light found a pic on ebay - http://www.autoquake.com/auctioning4u-motors/index.php?module=thumbnail&image=./images/archive/709-X817HNT/DSC_0026.JPG&maxw=1024&maxh=768 , is this icon not the EML also.. i'm a bit confused now.

Was only joking.... would never remove the bulb... fixing the problem is paramount, but if the light is on all the time like it is now  and vauxhall say there is no fault on my vehicle, if a fault was to occur apart from the car running badly i don't think i'd know.. bit worrying.

Other cheap fix is......have the emissions tested to make sure there is nothing wrong.....then just take the bulb out  ;)

just disconnected the battery your right it doesn't cancel the light, taking the bulb out sounds good at this time...lol

Thanks alot i will try everything... damn light as come back on.....lol, can't understand why vauxhall could not find a fault with codes in hand, they assure me they've checked all areas concerned but all is well... weird.

I think this will be an ongoing thing if i were to find the problem and fix it would the light go out on its own or will it need to be cleared with the diagnostic kit? if i disconnect the battery will this turn off the light all be it temporary.
