I found out that my aunt had been scammed out of a total of £800 from companies offering to stop nuisance calls but who would have been the source of those calls in the first place. I got the bank to reverse all the charges for items less than 120 days but they refused to act on anything older. I am now asking them to act under the above regulations as nothing was provided in writing by so called suppliers and there was no cooling off period.

Also recovered insurance monies on an appliance for which she was told cover had been transferred which I proved was not true.

Maybe useful info for someone in similar position. Scum playing on old people's anxieties.

General Car Chat / BMW drivers
« on: 26 November 2015, 17:02:59 »
I was first in queue at lights in outer lane of two with other cars on inside of me on inside lane. BMW is "behind" me. The 2 lanes become one about 100 yards in front of me. I set off smartly and a small gap opens up and I am about to move into it and see BMW nipping into inner lane to undertake me. Thankfully I was able to keep my nose in front to block him - he went absolutely ape as I then kept him there in the single track until I turned off.....Enjoyed that.

General Car Chat / Nice people
« on: 14 November 2015, 19:19:35 »
Parked in small supermarket - got back to car after 20 mins, van driver points to a car that has backed into me and then driven off and parked in another part of car park.
Van driver gives me his details. I wait for owner to return who at first denies it - when I say there is a witness she fesses up. She argues she did not leave scene as she is still here.

As I now have her details in no way due to her honesty the police are not interested.

It is pouring with rain and cannot see any damage as yet so will have to check tomorrow but witness said it was quite a thump.

At least van driver had integrity  - his words were he would not want it happening to him.

I have been put off buying any largish item which involves these people. They failed to deliver on the date they promised and yet on the tracking system said it was delivered. It turned up out of the blue a day later with no explanation and item damaged. Damaged item was supposed to be collected today - it wasn't - tracking system says it was collected at 2.30 pm today. Ebay seller has now said I can keep item and given me a full refund but I have to repair damage myself. 2 full days spent by my wife waiting for them.

Until today the original delivery was still on Yodel system stating that it was delivered to neighbour 5 hours after it was delivered to us!!!

I have written to ebay to recommend they take action to stop sellers couriers having open ended time slots and also that there is a sanction to stop this kind of nonsense

General Discussion Area / Roll pins - VX Flip key
« on: 18 April 2015, 09:22:36 »
Key became detached from flip key base on Insignia remote. My wife went to VX thinking it was an easy job - no - we need car for 45 minutes and it is a new key and will be £130.

Needless to say did not proceed and cross checked with another dealer - same response.

Looked on youtube at set up and it is just a roll in that is required.

Have sent message to Martin Imber but this may not be up his street. Any ideas on roll pin size and quality needed please.

Phil

.....my elderly aunt who has a new clutch in her KA every year and covers less than 1000 miles.

Attempts to get her into an auto so far unsuccessful which is barmy because she had an auto bmw prior to this car 13 years ago. She pays over £400 a time for the new clutch.

General Discussion Area / Nokia Lumia does not like toilet water
« on: 07 February 2015, 17:05:07 »
Managed to drop it down toilet - first time I have had to claim off EE insurance policy. New one arrives tomorrow. My daughter did same to her Galaxy a while ago and it survived because you could take battery out and dry in rice etc. No can do with Lumia.

General Car Chat / End of my Omega Era.

Omega will be going on Friday. I have bought a Black Astra 1.6 SE Auto Petrol 62 plate which will do the station job etc.

Feels quite strange after 13 years but it is not economic to keep if you do not do your own repairs. Not bothered with the hassle to sell private.

General Discussion Area / Care homes and NHS yet again
« on: 31 January 2015, 09:26:17 »
I posted about my short notice trip up north 2 weeks ago when my mother ended up in hospital.

Well she was stable so we came home and she remained under observation for her erratic blood sugars. On Friday the 23rd Jan both the care home and myself were assured she would NOT be discharged before 26/27 Jan. I made arrangements for the weekend. On Saturday afternoon I got a call from the Care Home that mum was back. Mum told me that evening that she had not walked in a week, had been waiting for a physio before she left hospital and her blood sugars were high.

The following morning I get a call from the Care Home that my mum has fallen whilst staff trying to get her to stand. She is on way to A and E and even before fall blood sugars had been 23.

Outcome is that her is leg is broken. Speak to Care Home who advise that in notes from hospital there is no mention that she had not been on her feet for a week.

Up to Manchester again having 20 minute hands free call whilst driving with ortho surgeon who says they cannot operate as bones too brittle and basically this could be end of mum's mobility (it was not great before). Blood sugars high.
A lot has gone on but we have what is classed as an unsafe discharge with the hospital having made no discharge and handling assessment and discharged her with high blood sugars which was the reason she was in there in the first place for treatment and observation.

Whilst I am on the case and have been all week and now back in Sandhurst you wonder what mum has done to deserve all this.

Waiting now for formal reports and meeting at fracture unit on 3rd Feb.

General Discussion Area / Lottery win
« on: 31 January 2015, 09:08:12 »
We do not do the Lottery very often but just changed numbers to birthday numbers of kids and grandkids plus mrs and myself.

Had biggest win we have ever had - getting 4 numbers - £81 - not a fortune but a nice result for the number switch.

My brother in law has a problem with the above on his iMac.

Anybody successfully removed it and the pop ups. There is quite a bit on the interweb but would be good to hear from someone on here who may have personal experience. Not sure yet which browser he is using.

General Discussion Area / Weather warnings and impact on road users
« on: 18 January 2015, 10:47:30 »
I was looking forward to a relaxing weekend but then call comes in from care home (it has happened a lot in last few years) that my mother has to go into hospital and paramedics called.

I was up in Ashton Under Lyne in 2 hours 45 mins (210 miles) - M40, M42, M6 all clearer than I can ever recall and traffic on M56 and M60 only due to roadworks really.

Seems as though many avoided the roads yesterday due to weather warnings.

Mum picked up a bit last night so hopeful that she will be ok and I will try and return tonight.
