Front and rear shocks question

Just bought some KYB Exel-g front and rear shocks for my son's Fiat.

When I press both new rears down to compress them and let them back up one moves slower than the other and doesn't extend as far as the other.

I get similar results with the 2 new front shocks. One moves slower than the other.

Is this normal?

Nope.

They probably have a tolerance and may be at opposite ends of that tolerance, but they really need to be matched across the car :-\

I've stood them up almost vertical and will leave until tomorrow and try them again. They travelled about 250 miles overnight on there sides and was probably stored that way. The gas mixing with oil makes sense. Only ever fitted oiled filed ones before.

Wile I'm on here, are the Febi top mount strut bearings any good or should I stick with KYB or another brand?

Al, it has virtually no rust anywhere. Cars been in the family for around 8 years now. Solid little car this one.  :y

I'll get a couple of Febi's ordered tomorrow.

My son has a Y reg Punto and tbh its a cracking little motor. Never gives any trouble and flies through MOT every year.
Had advisory for crusty inner sills a couple of years ago, so I chopped the rusty bits out and welded some plate on, but other than that its been 5 years of trouble from motoring for £300.
