Drank coffee and ate a sausage baguette while Serek fitted wishbones (re-using the front poly bushes of course!). Cheers Serek  :y

Fitted a cam belt kit and waterpump to another of the astra H fleet (no record of it being done ,100K )
the belt had been changed before ,but not the tensioner or idle pulley  ::)
bearings where very ropey ,not far off failing , i knew there was a bearing noise, thought it was the aux tensioner pulley ,that just needed re-packing with grease .
so ,even if you have a stamp or history that a belt has been changed , it may be just that ,the belt ,NOT the bearings, idler ,tensioner  :y

Fitted a new temp sensor on the LPG system, but for speed it was a no-name one with no info. It measured 5k, so I set it as one of the 5k sensors supported by the (old, v7 I think ;D) Stag software.  Runs lumpy as frick until warmed up, and blows the trims right out, so she uses on it petrol until its fully warm, and then she manually switches over.

In the depths of time - 10yrs ago when fitted - I suspect I might have played with temperature compensation, so I need to have a look. But its phishing down, its windy, its cold, and most importantly, "its not my car"

Other than that, I've been stuck in a shitbox Corsa most of the week, but fortunately I was chauffeured everywhere. A revving little bugger, but needed another gear for long dual carraigeways.  Beats the last hire car we had, and god awful 69 plate Qasqai that crippled me for days afterwards.

All franchise dealers do.  In fact, you'd be lucky if they even changed the belt.

Mine's in for a cambelt on Wednesday. I made sure that the youth who booked it in wrote 'cambelt, tensioner, roller and water pump' in the book.

I'd ask for the old parts to be put in your boot Uncle Stemo
and check the invoice lists the parts or a part number that relates to a kit  :y
oh , and they stamp it in your service book

It's a local independent garage that I trust, Dave. Not everyone is out to rip you off and this outfit have been doing my cars for about five years now. It's the one with spider man on the roof.  ;D

There's got to be a certain amount of trust between any consumer and the tradespeople they employ. Even builders. I'll bet you've done jobs where the customer has parked their arse in a chair in the corner and watched you like a hawk all day. Not nice.

The GM (Fiat) Diesel engine in not hard to do a cambelt on. Drivers side wheel and arch liner off. Engine mount off. Cam cover off. One roller, one tensioner and waterpump all within easy reach. On the YouTube vids, no locking kit is used.

yep , I just explain what i'm doing to them , if they keep me talking then it slows the job down  :(

indeed , most cam belts are simple to a competent spanner monkey
I think the only belt that is 'relatively complicated' is the V6 Omega one   ;D :D
