Either disconnect the TC switch, move switch to buttons above (you can get the small TC buttons, but rare).

But the Carin system is old. Much easier to use a portable nav system such as tomtom/navman/garmin etc

I agree. My car Elite has the Carin as factory fit, and although the system does work & gets you to where-ever, the newer systems are far easier to use and have a much clearer display. Sat-nav has come along somewhat in 7 years.

This is my solution:

Make one of these.

Attach a Tom Tom One.

Stick to dashboard screen.

So much easier than retro fitting a satnav.

Edit.  I usually stick it over the tacho, so I can still see all the warnings and indications.
After all, what use is a tacho in a non-manual 2.2, right?

Mods.  'Hillper boot release'.  Dimming mirror.  Cruise control. Rear parking sensors.  Becker/Rockford Fosgate/Infinity/Alpine audio.

does this mean that you can change the TC switch next to the radio for a small one that goes in the row of switches?  This is a question that I have been meaning to ask but not got round to it.

If you can simply change the switch, that would be great.  Is it the same connector for both?

Its likely you'll have to move the wiring as well. The switches are different - the small switch is much less common...

Is the TC buttom the soft touch type fitted to the later pre-facelift or the rippled type fitted to the early type omega's.

OK, Myself and Kev have just spent the last few hours fitting a carin sat-nav system to my 1996 omega elite which I removed a few weeks ago from a 1998 elite in a scrappie. The only problem was that the disc inside the sat-nav unit only cover's the south and central England the date on the disc is NT-gb 97.1.

I'II post photos of the full retro fit in the morning when I've tided up the last few bit's. 8-)

How do you mean?

There was an antenna supplied, which sits on the back parcel shelf, or on the dash.

Looked exactly like the GPS antenna on my Origin B2.  ::)

I was under the impression it was built into the radio/ phone antenna on the roof, didnt realise there was a seperate antenna

The GPS antenna is similar to the one pictured below, when I removed it from the scrap omega the antenna was located on the passenger side of the dash just next to the barcode but when I fitted it my omega elite I located it on the back parcel shelf , In a few days I'II post picture's of the whole instalasion;

The antenna is on the roof on facelift models with the Siemens/Navteq system, but on pre-facelift models with the Philips Carin system, like the one i've fitted to Jims, the antenna is seperate.  ;)
