Nice car, but the Ford V4 spoils it. Just like it did to everything else it was fitted to.

Advert states 1700, so it's a V4. And considering that the only things a 2.3 Cologne does better than a 2.0 Pinto is drink fuel and weight the front of the car down, a 2.0l has nothing to recommend it ;D

If the 2.3 struggled to produce 114bhp, I imagine that the 2.0 V6 would have made the diesel Mk2 Granada seem positively spritely :D

Would be tempting to swap a decent modern 4 pot into it, but the engine bay looks a bit tight. :-\

Oh, heck, It's an emissions-strangled 65 BHP V4 further hobbled by air con. :o

The seats (and the colour of them) scream "Battlestar Galactica" to me for some reason ;D

The 1.8 24v v6 from a Mazda RX3 might just do it ;)

It's part of its charm. I love the adjustable lumber supports too. I actually quite like it, to be honest. Such a shame the donk belongs in an ice cream van.. or being dragged along the sea bed on a chain. ;D

Did you mean RX-3 or MX-3?

But.. your freudian slip was a work of genius, as it turns out. A Mazda Rotary would be just perfect.  8)

I too rather like the seats, if I'm honest. I'm not a 'wedge' man when it comes to cars but it's definitely not the ugliest thing I've ever seen.

Throw a wankel in it, they're small, light.. and will only need rebuilding about as often as it will need structural work now it's left warm, dry California! ;D

[edit] Great minds?

Exactly.. It's a "sunny day" car, and Rotary engines are perfect for that. It would still take you a decade to wear it out and in that time you could easily save up for a rebuild. It's just crying out for 200 BHP+ and an engine that revs to <meh - not really that bothered, TBH>*.
