Must be a bit counter intuitive at first.Having said that I think the new one looks better than the original.Still be of no use to me as I can't get near enough to the bungalow to plug one in to charge it.

But how does it know if you require gentle retardation or a panic stop when you release the pedal?

Anyway....my car is showing almost 20 MPG so there is no need for derv or electricity to make it more frugal. :)

I had a mooch around one last year while I was waiting for my car from servicing and thought "It`s not a Micra anymore in the same way that a Mini isn`t mini anymore"

I went to look at a new one the other day as I was passing a dealer and I rather like them, with the exception that there is no reach adjustment on the steering wheel so there's no way I could get comfortable in one, which was a shame.
Financially it would make a lot of sense for me, and given that very shortly my entire commute will be subject to always-on motorway speed cameras, speed is no longer a factor in my choice of daily commuter, its all about the comfort and refinement.

Comfort yes, refinement, definitely no. Though that said the leaf is quicker by some margin at UK road speed.

Ahh, on further investigation.
1) You can turn it off
2) You still have a brake pedal for heavy braking
So it appears to be a mode that simulates a large amount of engine braking when you lift off.
Still a daft idea that will form bad habits, and what about the scenario when you think it's engaged but someone has turned it off, etc? ::)

It is based on the rate of deceleration, much like the systems on some cars that will put the hazards on once a certain level of emergency braking is detected, although obviously the brake lights kick in sooner than this :o
I haven't tried it, but by all accounts (from people who have used similar systems on other EVs) it becomes very intuitive very rapidly. Most EVs allow you to vary the level of regenerative braking and this is just an extension of those same systems.

I have enough trouble jumping between the wife's manual and my auto. I really don't need a third option to fry my feeble brain.

I drive my current Leaf with just the 1 peddle 95% of the time - very relaxing and the Omega takes some getting used to after!
The only difference with the new one is it will apply the actual brakes and bring you to a stop rather than only using regen.

The Tesla model Ss that I have driven can be set to maximum braking regeneration. Lifting off will drop a considerable chunk of speed as the energy get put back into the system...
Not a new idea, a decent truck exhaust can be set to slow the vehicle to almost a full stop when the accelerator is released. Certainly found the Volvo VEB+ to be particularly effective in this regard 8)

The only new bit here is the Nissan system will use the friction brakes and actually stop the car completely :y
