From new you could buy any spec Cavalier with the V6 engine.

Toomeys had a V6 in LS spec in their showroom complete with plastic wheel trims on 13's when I was looking at buying my old Cavalier in the mid 90's

From memory it was very close to the end of the Cavalier life and think they were just trying to shift the last cars with whatever engines they had left!!

Reminds me of that bit I read in one of Clarkson's books - he was attending a 'road safety how to drive properly advanced motorist jobby course day lecture things' and he lost any faith in what the instructor was saying when they told him the correct, safe way to overtake a vehicle is to move over to the right hand side of the road then change down a gear, then accelerate  :o  :o

Actually I'm sure i've seen a program on the police high speed driving thing and they do say pull out, ensure the road is clear then toe it.

Perfectly acceptable IF you are driving a powerfull car.

Think about it, you see a slower car, think its clear, boot it hard, pull out, its not clear so slam on to pull back in, risk hitting the car you are overtaking or a head on. On the other hand, you move over, way isn't clear you slot straight back in no drama or accelerate past.

Which is more sensible??

Obviously with an underpowered euro shitbox, pre planning and momentum is a lot more important, but if you are relying on momentum to get you past as opposed to power is it actually a safe overtake you are attempting??

........Best bet is to insure 3rd party fire, theft, only.........,

No point in doing that as difference between TPFT and fully comp is very minimal.

Might as well be fully covered for pulling the car out of the ditch a 19 year old is likely to stick it in, no point in 'losing' a £600 car for the sake of what is likely to be less than £100 extra on the insurance

 :D ;D

Lewis only has to finish second behind Rosburg to win it.

He only has to finish one place behind Rosberg to win.

With no other cars with even close to the performance, he can go for a boring follow my leader, as long as there are no mechanical failures or blind back markers the title is his, the final face off thing is a bit over hyped to be honest

Omega General Help / Re: Omega remapping
« on: 04 November 2014, 08:28:10 »
Not wanting to get into a big row about the subject, but I have a 3.2 with a remap showing as some would question an optimistic rolling road read out at 241 BHP......BUT!! having it done with a reputable company and certainly not the cheapo Egay diy crap from Eastern Europe :-\

And yet my old 3ltr MV6 with its £40 ebay chip produced 247bhp on a rolling road. It was in Total Vauxhall at the time, however I don't think it was right

It did have improved fuel economy and did approx 50k with no issues, so i would say, in this case with the n/a V6, you are better off saving money and buying a cheap ebay chip

*edited to add*

It was Polar Sea Blue metalic so nearly black, hence why it was so powerful

The main question is,was the oil cap left off?

Or just not seated properly - cross threaded for want of a better description.

I had it happen on my 3.2 Signum and in 35 miles its covered the engine bay and lost over a litre of oil, so very likely the cause of the smoke if the cap isn't on properly

Cracking bulk heads on some Saabs ...?

Yes, but not on the 2.8's, long before they were made

V6 turbo Vectra C/ SAAB 9-3 estate.

As well specced as an Omega more powerful, will carry as much or more, handles just as badly well so ride comfort is the same and they are cheap.

They are FWD but as you won't go BMW, Merc or Lexarse unless its a Jag, a Transit van or an 'exotic' performance/ hyper car you are kind of stuffed on that count

Petrol V6 turbo not the diesel

Guess what AF qre going to get?  ;D ;D ;D

A phone call and they will then match the quote if you send them a screen shot confirming its a like for like quote?

Just had both mine renewed, Chris Knott quotes were £329 for the Omega and £444 for the Signum, 2 calls, 2 emails later and its £263 and £370 plus no hassle of changing insurance companies etc.

It wont damage anything, and if you do hit 130MPH (ish), it will change into top gear.  :y

GPS 'verified' 124mph on a mfl 3ltr, apparently  :)

There was someone a couple of years ago looking to swap the 1.8 in a half CAN car to the 2ltr turbo which was only ever available in the full CAN version and it turned out to be far too costly, too many bits to swap about.

As the 3.2 was never available in full CAN cars its not likely to be easy, spec of the cars doesn't matter all the bits are individually 'coded' and there is alot of them! CIM, REC, UEC etc etc

The good news is the V6 will be on 308 or 314mm front and 292 rear brakes and they are easy to swap over!! :-)

Easier swap would be a ZNEx V6 engine into the 1.8 if you know of a back ended one?

Although with those miles and the spec of the car as the 55 is a facelift then you would be better swapping over the wings lights and bonnet to end up with a facelifted 3.2 which I'm guessing is partly the point to this? It is just a Saturday morning small spanner set job :-)

Wait for a few 8. Releases first. Always teething problems.
If they haven't got it right after seven attempts, perhaps Crapple are in the wrong business ::)

You should have a word with Bill Gates then if you think it only takes 8 attempts is enough to get it right!

General Car Chat / Re: Mv8 project. Steering rack no go...
« on: 08 September 2014, 16:11:31 »
Had a look a a HSV Commodore at a local car show, any reason why a Commodore rack can be used?

Andy

None at all I suspect.
....

The reason a V8 fits over the steering bits in a Commodore and more than likely not an Omega is the floor pan/ chassis or whatever you want to describe it as, is longer and wider in the Holden, this is why side skirts and bumpers are not a direct swap over fit
