To service the parking brake mechanism on my Merc.

Pop the rear seat cushion, remove plate (3 bolts) and bingo there it is.

Spent on and off 2 hours trying to remove the rear seat cushion, gave up in the end.

We're certainly not getting any younger, and I suspect most of the contingent on here have a free bus pass or are getting close to getting one  (especially with a love of old Vauxhalls or even just a passing interest).

Some jobs we wouldn't have thought twice about doing a few years ago.... but I'm not as flexible as I used to be. Yesterday was a good example of getting the exhaust monkeys to replace a cat-back system on the Omega. Yes I could have done it on the driveway in the freezing cold with just hand tools and my eyes full of rusty deposits and having to jack the car high enough to get my bulk under there.

Easy option and a couple of hundred quid lighter methinks.... might have been a different situation in the height of summer, but don't think the system would hold together for another few months, and I have to admit to being a fair weather enthusiast!

I didn't fancy crawling under the Vulva to change the lubricant, so got the local ATS to do that, as well as the fuel filter because that's underneath as well. 

I did change the air filter and pollen filter all by myself though.

I will then have to settle for a small tedious recycled washing machine.
Thankfully, Im not quite there yet.

Once I cant have two cars (one of them very cheap to run) and maintain them myself, then I would imagine Im looking at some shitebox little hatchback thing, with high mpg and low servicing costs.
Even the WVO element will have to go at some point, as lugging 20 L containers of it and lifting them several feet in the air to tip into the filters is something I wont be able to do at some point. 
Had a thought provoking moment at work last week when one of the other two guys who do the job had a heart attack when he was there by himself and had to get someone to come and take him to hospital.
He will be out of action for at least a month, so lots of overtime. Every cloud......

Not bothered about when the grim reaper comes for me, as long as its quick. Getting dementia like my poor old Dad did petrifies me.

Bloke I worked with in the mid '80s turned up at work one morning complaining of stomach ache at 10am he had a massive heart attack and[according to the autopsy]was dead before he hit the floor.They said that his heart was in such a bad way that even had he been in hospital at the time of the attack he likely wouldn't have survived and it was surprising he had lived as long as he had.He was 32
