Alarm Problem?
« on: 02 November 2007, 21:35:25 »

Chaps,

Every now and then the indicators flash repeatedly for about five minutes at a time! I guess this is an alarm trigger but there's no sound! The car is a '95 Elite Estate. I seem to have read in the users manual (that which comes with the car!) that when you unlock the car, the alarm LED gives an indication that the alarm's been triggered? Well, it doesn't seem to! The LED flickers though for about twenty flashes when you arm the alarm, and then settles down to a slow on off pattern as per normal. What does this mean? Is the alarm shagged :(

Feel a bit of a nit here, done a bit of trawling and I think I may have answered my own questions ::) It seems that a; the bonnet switches tend to move and give false triggers and b; the alarm unit (powersounder) tends to go US with the rechargeable batteries leaking inside. I'll try disconnecting the bonnet switch first and see how I go. It's only a once in a while thing and there's no annoying whail so it could well be the powersounder unit I guess. However, I couldn't give a monkey's if the alarm works or not so can you just remove the unit if need be? That'd stop it :)

Check that the alarm horn is plugged in (under scuttle, drivers side)

can only be done on the earlier IR type.  The RF type is fully integrated, and cannot be (easily) disabled.

Ah, well mine is an IR early setup so that may be the way to go.

However....., while I had the scuttle panel off this Saturday following the layout of the vacumn pipes to get my heater controls working I had a look for this little box under the scuttle at the right (is that correct?), well if that's were it is I ain't got one :o The little horn is there but no alarm. Mysteriouser and mysteriouser....!

to be honest i dont want to give away an locations on the net as many criminals
use the web to obtain info.
but the ir alarm ecu is not where you think it is.

email me and i will happily help.

one website that really gives me the hump
is scoobynet

they all go on about their subaru's and
how often they get stolen etc
and say they want alarms and trackers  to protect them

then they tell anyone who enters their forum how to get around the alarms
by giving people the alarm wiring diagrams etc

they are the ones that are getting their cars stolen
they drive me up the wall
ive reported them to  various alarm company's
and have had some peoples trade accounts frozen due to the lack of
security and disrespect concerning wiring diagrams.

i mean the standard factory fitted car alarm is no secret to a pro crim
as all they have to do is buy a car and examine the way it is installed.
every model will have the same layout.

but aftermarket fitted systems can be fitted in many different locations
on every car.
so giving out the diagrams is not the end of the world
but im sure you will agree the less help the crims are given
the better chance the good guys have.

sorry if im going on but some people p1ss me right off lol

Power sounder is in the back left scuttle......and the IR immobiliser is disable-able but, you dont have a problem with the immobiliser so dont worry about it.
