Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Alarm / Indicators query
« on: 24 January 2007, 12:33:35 »
The other day when I was working on my car 97P Omega when finished I locked my car as you do and all the indicators flashed, my dad at the time who was with me commented that his 94M omega indicators do not flash when the alarm is armed or disarmed.

He has the IR type with the red dot on the ceiling.

Has been mentioned in an older thread but I am still unable to trace the problem.

I have proven the alarm works since.

Could anyone suggest a possible reason why it does it on mine but not my dads.

I had a similar problem on my dads omega, I found the alarm horn under the scuttle the contacts were corroded and so it wasn't doing anything.

When sat in the car do the sensors pick up any movement when you lock and the light settles and starts to flash, only even though my dads alarm horn wasn't working I confirmed the sensors were due to a relay which started to click behind the glove box.

I believe there has been a scuttle removal guide started by Theolodian, The horn itself should be located on the drivers side under the scuttle.

Well no danglers! The bulb for the air vent looks ok but I'm hoping it isn't  :o
Took out the light control switch, and the bulb there looks ok too. I thought that previously the top half of the unit had worked but now it doesn't. Is there only the one bulb for the whole unit (ie to include the lower portion - fog lights and dimmers)? And does the bulb holder have to be replaced as well? I presume both are Vx parts anyway.
Cheers

I think the top half uses LED's which die over time.
LEDs rarely fail...

My mistake I thought they were LED's in the top half :-[ only with mine the top half doesn't light up either.

Firstly I would check to see if there are any loose connections to the back of the radio.

My guess is if you get all round speakers with radio then to me it would possibly a probem with the cable which runs from the radio to the changer. I would be tempted to check the connection both ends and if that doesn't resolve it possibly try another known working cable (not Ideal as they can be a pig to get hold of).

Hope this helps. ;)

I have managed to fix a couple but, its not easy and involves fabricating some plates to clamp the flexi circuit.

I have seen a stripped one before and it looked like a rubber band went round a part of it which help to create the pressure on the strand I was thinking perhaps double the thickness creating more pressure to the strand on the flexi circuit hope this make sense.

I may try using some cable ties see if that works.

Can they be fixed or is it a replacement job

I managed to win one from a scrappy but it was worse than what I have was wondering if there was a knack to fixing them.

Has anyone fixed one before.

I discovered that they do not necessarily need to have the same part number as I tried one with a different part number but with the same Sockets on the back being a yellow and a grey socket.

Thanks, are the relays under the seat? Dave

Rear seat relays are clipped in place under the rear cushion at the front, kinda inside the metal base area. hope that makes sense. :y

Are you sure its not one of the relays has packed up.

The rear seat relays run of the same cable from connector by the passenger rear door for both left and right seats.

If one works I would say its either the relay or the connector.

Gotta be worth checking both may even be a chafe/kink in the wire causing the problem.

Back to the other part of the original question, anyone know where the relays are. My front seats have both failed and think relays are an obvious choice before taking the leather apart!

Cheers
Steve

Steve i have to admit I haven't actually considered the relays although with my seats they were swapped and the original heated seats worked.

Be interested myself to know where the relays are.

I can only assume the relays are located somewhere under the seat shall check my old seats as I still have them, maybe able to locate them and even swap them over to see if they work.

If its cloth trim, the heater pads can be replaced...  ..if leather, the official line is a new seat.  I've heard a rumour that its possible to get to from underneath, but not tried. Failing that, try an upholstery specialist...  ...sorry.

Not necessarily I have seen on the other site some part numbers for the heater pads and thought I would see about getting mine done.

I contacted autovaux and they can get the parts.

Apparently with the leather you can unstitch and replace, which is what I plan to do in the new year.

Thinking of replacing both my front seat heaters as not 100% sure they both work. atleast then if i know the two heater pads are good and something is still not right I will know its either the switches or the wiring.

I'm sure I read somewhere that some police spec omegas have the internal light wired to a switch in the dash so you can stop it coming on when opening the doors and also they can switch it on whilst sitting in it with the doors closed.

Perhaps they have removed this switch.

Maybe with the switch removed there is a constant feed running to where the switch is or was causing the drain.

Any chance you could post up a piccy of your dash so can see whats missing or added.

HTH ;)
