General Car Chat / Re: Omega passed MOT
« on: 02 February 2022, 14:47:49 »
Hi VXL V6

No this is my own 2.6. The emissions are low on this one. It is the wifes 2ltr which had the emission problems. Got a new exhaust manifold coming for her car. I think that there is a small hairline crack on the original one, that must of been small last year, but is noticeable this year. Hopefully it will help with her cars emissions.

This years emissions for mine:

FAST IDLE
CO      0.052
HC         14
LAMDA 1.004

NATURAL IDLE
RPM 661
CO  0.000

The co for natural idle has always been like that, even when I lived up in Scotland. Would be great if the wifes car came in near to these readings ;D

Hi Stemo, that is good going on your car, nice when they don't want much. After the stroke I had a while back, working with metal is still one of my favourite things. :) I struggled a bit with the mechanical, but thanks to the help patience and support from  GastronomicKleptomaniac, when doing the bits on it, the ticket made it all worth while.  The wife will not part with her Omega estate, so got to keep it going, replaced most of the mechanical bits on it, so the bodywork needs a bit of TLC, not much rust just things like paintwork etc. The mention of scrapping it, is a swear word  ;D

General Car Chat / Omega passed MOT
« on: 01 February 2022, 16:05:17 »
My Omega, passed its MOT. Got some minor advisories that are not major.  Now got to get the tracking done, as had to change middle steering linkage, both trackrods, both wishbones and steering idler. The front shocks and coils were done for last year. No advisories for rust. Just done rust removal on front (had to make a new drivers side outrigger). Checked inside the front wheelarches and all seems OK, including the front part under the headlights. Now got to do the wifes 1995 Omega for its MOT in March.

I think that when you apply, to renew your licence. There should be some sort of compulsory assesment done then Especially the way the way the driving test is now. That way all age groups are assesed and hopefully the ones that shouldn't be on the road are caught. Also some sort of refresher course, for everyone. I know that people say they don't have bad driving habits, but I am sure if they stopped to think, they have. I am not far off 60 and live in a village that has a bus turn up when it feels like it. But if I no longer feel happy driving or am told through my suggestion I cann't drive, then I will surrender my licence.

Thanks Dave the Builder for the info.
Looks like will be getting one made up hopefully. At least I was able to move the car in the drive, as got builders in the next few days.

Thanks Tick Tock

So just have to remove bumper. I see on your picture that the pipes are different again to the 2.6. In that there is no connector on the top pipe, as mine has where the pipe from the steering box, comes down to meet the one going across the front. Your picture looks like the engine is a 2.5? I wonder if at a push the 2.5 one would fit from the steering pump to the steering box?

The metal pipe is the one that was leaking at the joint, on the left side as in the photo. The fluid definately came out under alot of pressure. It comes from the front of the steering pump, then across the front of the car then joined to the pipe coming from the left side, with what looked like a compression fitting.

The engine in wifes car is a 2.0 16v engine code x20xev. It has the EGR at the back of the engine.

So the 2.2 EGR is fitted different to the 2.0, as the 2.0 is fitted on the piece where the water coolant sensors go?
I want to remove the EGR on the 2.0 anyway, so the non EGR one sounds the best one?

There is another pipe under the metal one that goes from one side to the other. It also has hydraulic rubber hose and fittings that go to it. I thought that I had got one, but it was off a 2.2 that is different again. I did try the rubber hydraulic hose and proper clamps, but it blew the fluid out, so as said fitted a compression fitting which seems to work, so is the metal one a high pressure line?

The manifolds in the links, come with new gasket, studs and nuts. Is the gasket in the kit no good, on the non EGR manifold kit?

I have thought about getting some aliminium cans melt them and pour into a mold on many occasions but not got round to it. The next door neighbour can supply me with plenty of cans, they fill the recycle bin and have boxes full, every week. ;D

Thanks DG for the reply that the 2.2 manifold in the links will fit. My thinking was if I get the manifold, that is for the engine without EGR, then I could just leave the EGR on the engine, instead of putting a blanking plate on it, as the channel from the EGR to exhaust will not be on the manifold, if that makes sense.

When I traced the metal one in the picture, the passenger hand side goes to the steering pump. The drivers side goes over the chassis rail and looks like it goes to the steering box.  I thought if I undid both ends, I could of manouvered it out, without removing radiators and other stuff around them.
