When changing switches in actuator for the drivers door am I right in thinking there is two switchws and do both need changing?
If so are they the same type of switch

I say one because both switches are joined together ;)

and for £7 , it's not worth sourcing a single replacement,and the hassle of soldering etc

Thanks for the reply and link but its the central locking motor actuator I'm enquiring about, rather than the central locking switches themselves

Look at the "Repairing a central locking motor" by Kevin Wood in the Maintenance Guides section.
Over the years I have used this guide to refurbish several central locking micro-switches.
As I recall both micro-switches are the same and I sourced them from RS Components.
They are described as DB2 type and mine have the code 290-0463.
The micro-switch fixing points are slightly different but they are easily adapted to fit.
The hardest part is extracting the central locking motor from the door!

Does anybody have any tips or can suggest the right tools to remove the black casing around the actuator motor
Been trying for 2 hours and can't get all of the lugs released at the same time
appreciate responses from people who have managed to do this

Cant you wedge something under each lug once you get it in the correct position to release..say bit of thick folded cardboard or similar then onto the next one .
Never removed the casing myself as soldering skills wouldn't allow a good repair, but have used that method before on other plastic covers :y

Tried wedging it with various items but just cant seem to shift it. Had to give up for the day as starting to get annoyed with it. A fresh start another day. Getting the actuator out of the car is a joy compared to this. >:(

Perhaps KevinW could offer some guidance as he did the repair guide so there is probably a "knack" to doing it.

Just looking at a spare refurbed solenoid I recall the following:
I guess you have driven out the two roll pins at the connector end?
I also removed the white connector (to the locking mechanism) at the other end of the solenoid.
I use small screw drivers to open up the outer black body and then insert thin plastic pieces to keep them apart.
The solenoid should then pull out of the outer black body.

No knack I know of, apart from I put pressure on it so when each corner pops over lug, its does reseat on it.

I find it helps to insert a thin plastic strip under each of the latches on the black cover of the locking motor before pulling it off. Something like a strip cut from an old credit card will do the trick.. but it does tend to be fiddly however you do it.
