Title: Starter motor

Hi all
I have a 2.6 v6 2003 B series and my hubby having problems removing starter motor and unable to remove drivers side engine mount... any advice welcomed... thanks

Unlucky to have had the starter fail :o

Short 16mm offset ring spanner to undo the mount plus jack and block of wood to lift the engine :y

Expansion bottle to access the top bolt on mount....
Yes i say unlucky as this is the 2nd starter motor in 2 years but hubby determined to fit himself to save garage fees as last time

Moving the bottle won't hurt, but not necessary. Don't drain it, just pop the clip, slide the bottle out and plonk to one side ;)

If undoing that side doesn't give enough space, undo the other side as well and prop the sump on a block against the subframe.

I've done two relatively recently due to faulty solenoids - in both cases, I found it far easier to gain access to the starter motor mounting bolts ( to then to remove it from the engine) by undoing the three bolts for the alloy engine mounting bracket and removing it with the engine supported under the sump on a trolley jack.
