Title: How hard can it be?
Post by: TheBoy on 17 November 2019, 16:29:09
To buy a 24-27" 1080p Smart LED TV for sensible money (ie, sub approx. £150).

Thinking it would be trivial, as I have bought such items with ease previously, I ripped out the old 17" analogue LCD TV and its digibox last week.

Today, I have refitted it all ;D

Christmas is upon us, so retailers add 100% to the price for seven days, then take 30% off again and call it a sale.

I hear you and am usually as cynical at such ploys to part me with my folding stuff, however.... I need a new washing machine and Curries have a Hotpoint at £209 down from an alleged £299.  Looking around, the cheapest I can find that model is £269, so it seems a good deal.  :y

I await someone to find the same for £150... Please?  ???  ::)  ;D

The full sentence would be "Argos seem to stock a Telly."

Too in this context means "as well", and the sentence "Argos seem as well" is obviously tosh.

it is:

Go to Currys where they have lots.
Pick one that's the right size for the room, and price for your budget.
Have them carry it to the car
Drive home
Plug it in and remind yourself how much unwatchable shit there is on the telly.

No. They don't have a single one. Nor do the likes of Argos, the Supermarkets, Richer Sounds, Eurotronics or whatever they are called.  I've also tried online with John Lewis (as not a store near me) and generic searches, and drawn a blank.

Hence the title.

Space constraints in the room its going in means it really cant be bigger than 27", which seems to be the problem.  That and the requirement for it to also be 1080p.

It work appear than 32" is the smallest "portable"/bedroom TV now, but I don't have room for anything that big.

Yup, you know exactly where I am right now ;D

Looked at every link, none meet the criteria I've given. And to be clear, I wont buy such an item from ebay.  That reminds me, I need to update that thread with yesterdays disappointment.

It has to be a max of 27" due to space constraints - so don't send links to 32" ones, there are millions of those, but I suspect they wont work if I saw the sides and top off so it fits.  It has to be 1080p, and Smart for specific reasons.

These were reasonably common.

Nah, that aint gonna work.  The idea is to reduce the clutter there, not add more.  That would leave me no better off than my current analogue LCD and its STB/Smart device.

This one's a telly, LCD, 1080p, but maybe not that smart and only 22"...  :-\

However, I bet it's smarter than Eboy's old telly and it's 5" bigger!  :y

I was impressed though how slim tellys have become though .... most of the screen was less than 1/4" thick  :o :o

First place I looked, but nothing that small (certainly in the Coventry branch).

You walk in (to any Costco), and the first thing you see is bunch of massive TVs, so when you walk around the corner to look at the smaller ones, you find something that meets the specs, but then realise its still 40", yet looks tiny ;D

An 80" TV is never cheap.

Costco are pretty competitive on them, and like JL, you get a 5yr warranty.  But choice is poor.

Nope. Not one.  Nothing online, or in the MK store, where the guy was even kind enough to look up if any of the old stock was still available in other stores.

This type of product was readily available 2 or 3 years back, just not now.

So far Auto Addict has got the closest, but I think it may be too small, and research online shows the Bush ones may suffer bad reliability issues.

I'm gonna cut out a bit of cardboard to that size and see how it looks :y

OK, 22" is defo too small. 24" is looking too small as well, which is going to narrow my search even further  >:(

I'm guessing there is a shortage of 1080p panels in that size, or yield issues (amounts to same thing), so nobody is really producing them.

I'll have to revisit in a few months :(
