Oh no, not another car dilema...
« on: 12 December 2013, 22:22:37 »

Have been considering a 3.0 CDTI Vectra C estate to retire the Omega as a work hack...
I know they are relatively rare, and pretty trouble free, but can find only limited information for the engines...

Saw three today, one was physically grotty, but mechanically ok, one was low mileage with a coolant habit to shame a tramp and the other had had several hundred pounds thrown at it for a mystery fuelling fault and was visibly dropping oil, only 55k too...

The only concern is that the only issue that appears common is an issue with the suction pump. What are the odds of three rareish cars in the same fleet all having major (and different) problems, and yet every single other one being fine :-\ not good is my guess...

With that in mind, attention wandered to a 60 plate Volvo V70 D5 SE manual... ::)

Would the Volvo be a safer bet as a working car :-\

As long as the Volvo doesn't have the same throttle body issue of the c70.

The 3.0 in my Siggy has done 130k now and is bone dry, doesn't use coolant or oil so I would walk away from them and find one thats all together :y

I think all the facelifts are DPF'ed as well ::)

Fear not, I didn't buy one :y trouble is, supply is a bit limited, as it has to be white ::)

The Volvos tend to be much higher mileage, but guess that's a sign of reliability  :-\ crap cars simply won't do 50-60k a year...

Saw a selection of '09 V70 T6s, average mileage was 145k, and only declared fault was a nearly dead PAS pump on a car that had done 186k...

My Dad has a V70 D5. Seems happy with it. Nowhere near as refined as an Omega but reasonably nippy and, being a tractor, I guess it doesn't have the volvo throttle body'o'doom?

Wouldn't have another 1.9 vectra if you bought me a brand new one ;D

And if anyone suggests the Avensis, I shall be around to firmly punch them... :-X
