I took driving lessons in a Marina. Thought it was great.

 

So did Sir Tigger. Oh, did you say driving lessons? 

Yep took my test in my Dad's British Racing Green Marina pickup with no synchromesh between 2nd and 3rd gears, so had to double de clutch changing down! 

The examiner said to my driving instructor after my test that I thought I was driving a tractor.     

He didn't know about the lack of synchromesh and passed me. 

I failed my first test in a Maestro... The first and last BL car I have ever driven.

My mate's 2.0 EFI one was fun, in an "I wonder which direction it'll go next time I hoof it?" kind of way, but I'm guessing it wasn't one of those...

Presumably you mentioned to your new employer that you would be available after a one month notice period. It's not unreasonable that you await a firm, permanent offer in writing before triggering that, so if they are reasonable, they should accept if you politely decline the temporary filler job they've offered you with little notice, and accept that they are hiring someone with integrity who will honour the contract they have with their previous employer.

I guess you could have given written notice earlier and taken them at their word, but we're not there now.

You could always appeal the result of the MOT but for a couple of weeks' worth of tyre wear I'd suck it up and get them to quote for a couple of tyres.

..Or buy a couple of wheels at a scrappy and fit them in their car park.

Took the newly rebuilt and now insured french contraption for a drive this morning and all was well.
Drove it to work this evening and engine bay as dry as a bone when I got here, so it looks like its back to full working order - for the moment. 
Shall fill it with diesel tomorrow and keep my fingers crossed. 

Just fill it a  third full, just in case. It might not last a full tank. 

Speaking of the mighty clit......I once had a test drive in a clit 172 Cup that was great fun and properly quick.

2003 car in a fetching shade of blue.

A mate of mine had one. The wiring in the doors kept catching on fire.

There was a development near here a decade or so ago, built at the bottom of a bowl.
"it floods there" said the locals, but planning knew best.
6 months later, the water was up to the letterboxes and the whole lot got demolished again.
