Omega General Help / Rear jacking and axle stand points
« on: 21 June 2018, 10:39:27 »
One side of the rear is jacked up but I only have the one jack. I need to lift both rear wheels off the ground for servicing and adjusting the handbrake. I know the jacking point is on the centre bolt of the triangular plate. If I jack from here where do I put the axle stand in order for me to use the jack to lift the other side?

Omega General Help / A/C and Rad fan question 2.2 petrol 2003
« on: 29 May 2018, 20:46:16 »
When I have the A/C on the A/C fan runs and when its off so is the fan.

On the radiator fan mine has always been on from from a cold start engine. Isn't it suppose to be off until the radiator gets hot enough to turn the switch on like most cars?

Omega General Help / Smell of coolant in the car
« on: 11 May 2018, 20:59:27 »
Got an intermittent smell of coolant in the car on my Desmond. It's been like that for a long time. Started a couple of years ago. I thought it's about time I got to the bottom of it if possible. Coolant level doesn't seem to drop but it does seem to be worse when heater temp is set to 18c.

Anyone else experience this or know what might cause it?

Omega General Help / Oil filter question
« on: 03 May 2018, 10:55:48 »
Do these look genuine?

https://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/0vcAAOSwKIpWBmWe/s-l1600.jpg

The box I have here has a hologram on the box and says long life on the filter after the p/n. The ones in the link say GM after the p/n.

Just phoned Drive VX and they want £28.08 for the Carbon Activated Pollen Filter 93165208 and £24.66 for an Air Filter 91149684.

Does anyone know of any cheaper options that work as good?

Omega General Help / Cambelt change intervals
« on: 25 April 2018, 11:43:44 »
I changed the cam-belt around 4 years ago but I've only done around 9K miles in that time. I put in a Contitech kit along with a new water pump and auxiliary belt.

How urgent is it that it that it needs to be be changed this year?

Omega General Help / Air con question
« on: 20 April 2018, 21:23:53 »
Had the Air Con re-gassed less than an year ago and the temp after it was done the air vents were around 5C. I will check what temp the vents are at tomorrow as it's now running warm.

I have searched for any sign of leaks with a UV torch and glasses but I can't find any. Is there any component in the Air Con system than can cause this other than a leak?

Thanks

Omega General Help / Manual gearbox oil top up quetion
« on: 24 March 2018, 16:09:01 »
Desmond manual 2003.

In cold weather I find 2nd gear very stiff to get into gear and all the other gears feel very notchy until the gearbox warms and all it back to normal then. Thought the oil might be low.

I read some where that it might be ATF fluid or 75w-90.

What is the correct oil to top up my gearbox?

Thanks

Omega General Help / MOT failier with broken NS/R spring
« on: 23 March 2018, 21:43:45 »
The garage said it was OK to replace just the one spring. They will be providing and fitting the new one.

I rarely push the car over 3000rpm but I do drive on country/motorway roads quit a bit.

Will I feel any difference in the new and the old springs when driving?

I have a trip to Yorkshire cumming up later this year and would like a safe journey. But money is very tight right now.

Thanks

Omega General Help / MAF temp rading vs ambient air temperature
« on: 22 August 2017, 12:03:08 »
My MAF is reading 24c on a run down the motorway but the ambient air temperature is only 13.5c yesterday. Is this normal operation for a MAF sensor on a 2.2 petrol 2003?

Thanks

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Rad switches help needed please
« on: 12 August 2017, 18:19:47 »
There are two rad switches, one top and one lower down on the coolant rad. Which one controls what speed?

I own a 2.2 2003 that only has two fans, one for the coolant rad and one for the aircon rad. They are both on when aircon is on even in winter. Is this normal?

With the aircon off and when the engine reaches 100 on the scan tool both fans come on. Should there be just the coolant fan come on first at a lower temp, then shut off and only both fans come on at around 100 to stop overheating in summer?

Any help with this is appreciated as the car is going on its first very long journey soon when we go on holiday.

Omega General Help / Long term fuel trim
« on: 11 August 2017, 11:19:25 »
My long term fuel trim stays rock solid at 7.03% and doesn't change even with revs. Is this normal?

I thought it adjusted to match what the STFT was doing.

Thanks
