Airbag light on the Estate
« on: 13 August 2006, 16:44:55 »

Just spent 30 mins playing with the Estate instrument bulbs.

There has been a failed handbrake bulb for a some time so fixed that, noticed also that the airbag light bulb was missing  (I cant believe that I missed this before!)

So, fitted a new one and replaced the handbrake warning bulb and hew presto.....the handbrake light was on.

Connected the cheap tech2 up and read the fault codes.....

Airbag Indicator lamp voltage low (fairly obvious given that there was no bulb!)
Airbag ECU not present

The last one is an odd one and can indicate that somebody has powered the system up with the ECU half disconnected (plug half removed) and the bulb failure does not keep the check lamp illuminated (its one of the only airbag self reseting codes).

So checked the connections and reset the codes.....all is now well.

The key thing here is that the cheap Tech2 is clearly more than happy to work with the airbag and engine.....plus a few other systems.

I couldn't get cheapo tech2 to read airbag fault codes on my 1998 car. It was happy to clear them though :)
