Departure of an old friend
« on: 03 July 2019, 15:06:07 »

I have owned this Omega for over 13 years, a record for me, but now it has to go, witnessed by son and grandson. Charles Trent gave me £184 for it, and the friendly driver let my grandson look into his cab.

And a much better price than I used to get from my local scrap merchant. Thanks for the tip.

I wonder. The market for Omega parts must be shrinking fast.

Only bits worth good money is downpipes, £100, gearbox £150, flywheel and pedal box£75, rear diff if lsd £200.  There you go Terry, Not as if you couldn't have removed those bits and stored them to sell, would have sold in about a week.

Yes, rust. Last 3 MOTs more and more rust has been found, this year it passed MOT but I found the right hand rear shock aborber turret nearly rusted through.

Sure, 13 years is quite long time, I bought mine in 2004 so owned it 15 years. With help of oof easy to keep it moving but as said corrosion becomes more and more the case. Perhaps if I had done some corrosion protection early enough situation could be better today. Looking now for e.g. E-series Mercedes as I am towing a caravan.

I used to buy ex-police Senators at auction, and scrapped them when the clutches failed. I bought ex-police Omega OE03 at auction too, and was alarmed to read that it was on its 5th clutch at 119,000 miles. That clutch failed after 10000 more miles, but JamesV6CDX and OOF taught me how to change clutches, and the car lasted another ten years. Eventually something was bound to finish it off, and it turned out to be corrosion.

I forgot your cars have proper manual gear boxes Terry and all 3 pedals (as God intended  :D )
many people would have given you £184 for the transmission setup alone  :(
