General Car Chat / Space saver tyre
« on: 21 October 2018, 16:55:26 »
Could somebody please advise.
I have 235/45/19 on the front and 255/40/19 on the back. I noticed that the space saver is t135/90/17. If i had a flat either on the front or back could i use this space saver without causing any damage to transfer boxs or diffs. Car is a bmw x3.
I have looked on a couple of different sites and the tyre radius is ok but iam more worried about any damaged to could cause.

General Car Chat / Xenon bulbs
« on: 15 September 2018, 12:50:16 »
Do the bulbs get tired.. the car is a 2004 and no sign in the service history of ever been replaced. Also is it worth upgrading these or just stick to original 4500 ones.

« on: 18 July 2018, 18:58:00 »
Probably a silly question but iam a bit of a dinosaur when it comes to techi stuff.
Can i buy a pc that will allow me to wifi to three different tv/monitors.

Iam thinking of
My office computer hd wired to my tv(monitor) printer
My sons room tv/monitor wifi mouse/keyboard
My daughters room tv/monitor wifi mouse/keyboard

Can i have the above total wifi also can i have all three using and searching the net at the same time.
Looking at a budget of about £600. I already have a dell using windows 7 with wireless mouse keyboard.

Any help with setup list of stuff i need to buy would be great thanks.

« on: 12 July 2018, 20:12:41 »
On normal driving everything runs fine. If i give it a boot full to overtake or just to get on i find my cats are stinking of rotten eggs. Does this mean my cats are shot. :'(

General Car Chat / Tyre sizes and rolling radius
« on: 06 May 2018, 16:24:36 »
I picked up a bmw which is running on 235 45 19 on the front and 255 40 19 on the back. It needs new tyres all round but i cannnot find 4 of the same. Apart from the cheap rubbish.
Is they any reason why i cant run 235 45 19 all round. I think the alloy is a bigger width on the back.
Also is the running diameter different with the setup it has now.

General Discussion Area / Brake pedal
« on: 13 April 2018, 20:16:15 »
Bit of a strange question but if i heat the metal arm of a brake pedal could i get it hot enough with a plumbers torch. Secondly once and if i could bend it would the metal loose its strength.eg would it be brittle and not safe to use. Also what thickness would you make a wide brake pedal say 15cm wide when the brake arm will be at one end and not in the middle. I was thinking a 10mm drilled plate.

General Car Chat / Bmw x3
« on: 19 March 2018, 20:04:32 »
Had a look at a 2004 bmw x3 when you slow down you stop then you get a slight thump from the back. Chap told me it was because he has just put on 2 cheap tyres on the back. His  mechanic agreed with. I have googled it and it does seem to be a problem if same tyres are not the same make on all 4 wheels. Just thought i would ask your opinions on this. Yes i can walk away but would just like to know.

This has come up on my audi 1.8t petrol. Car still runs great. I have done a bit of googling and it came back with maf,air leak,02 sensor.
I cant see any split hoses.
would it be just a coinsidence that iam on my second tank of esso 98 oc really cold weather.
How do i check maf..
Code reader said it was lean on bank 1. Would this be the 02 sensor before cat.

General Car Chat / 4x4
« on: 02 March 2018, 14:27:52 »
Knowning nothing really about this but after reading some stuff on here about bmw x5s and seening a land rover and a truck thing go up our hill without a problem but a chap in a range rover couldnt. My question is whats the best and why or is it just tyre choice and driver skill. Would lets say a audi quattro on winter tyres be as good as lets say a land rover. Also whats the difference in all wheel drive and a 4x4.
