Omega from Sunny South Africa
« on: 27 January 2020, 11:18:47 »

Hi everyone,

I've always been a massive Opel fan, only recently taken ownership of my first omega though, and it's a massive difference over the other opels I've owned, which are (in order of appearance):

1992 Opel Kadett "Cub" (1.4 converted to f.i.)
1985 Kadett GLS (2.4 16v)
1995 Calibra 2L 16v
1972 Opel Manta DL (1.9 with sidedrafts)
1974 Opel Manta GT (converted to 2.2 carb fed)
1964 Opel Kadett B 1.2

Omega's were released in SA on a very limited scale, either as 2.2 4cyl or 2.6 v6 versions, all of which were imported anyway.

My car started life as a 2.5 v6, bought new in the UK in 2002 (i think), and somewhere down the line was imported to South Africa, and received a 3.0 v6 transplant.

I bought the car for next to nothing, as it was running on 5 cylinders in limp mode with hundreds of faults, and finding spares in SA is proving challenging.

I'm hoping that with the forum's help I can finally get the car running 100% again.

Sounds like your Omega is in a similar way as mine. You must have had fun in the Mantas. Whereabouts in South Africa are you based?

Hi.. yeah mine's seen better days, bodywork needs some attention, but the engine is the real issue.. ive managed to get the fault codes down to a few, but i think theres some permanent damage to the ecu.. it starts up, but in limp mode only..

Im from the south side, Port Elizabeth.. you know SA well?

Don’t know SA well - just Capetown - which was a great place to visit.

Welcome. Have you tested another ECU on your Omega? In the past I installed a power chip and the ECU stopped working perfectly. I was forced to exchange for another used one.

There's many great places to visit, but Cape Town is the safest bet..

I was under the impression each ECU has it's own coded key?? I will start topic in technical section and we can take it further :)
