The Next Cambelt Party..
« on: 11 April 2007, 12:27:32 »

After the success of the Brackley parties, I was wondering if we should be having another one soon, and indeed where to have it.

I could possibly host one in Newbury, although parkings a premium, but plenty of room around the roads to park on, I also have a drive + garage, and a big front lawn that can be parked on by 3 cars.

I also have an almost industrial bbq!

Anyone interested?  We'd be needing a couple of specialists who know what they are doing to change cambelts and generally do mechanical type things.. Also have a travel lodge up the road, and some half way decent places to stay over in town if need be.

And when?  Sooner, later? April, May, June..

I've seen a thread for a non-cambelt one, this would be the mechanical version of that  :)

There have been rumours for one at the end of the month, dont know if that will happen yet.
I am up for one, when I heard the rumours I thought I would do both cars, but on checking, only the 2.2 is in need of one, so Cambelt, Aux Belt, Water Pump, New coolant tank and coolant all in stock ready :)

I'm no good with spanners, but trying to learn a bit.

Yours may be a bit far for me to be honest, with a month old baby at home etc.

The non-cambelt one has come and gone.  It was very mechanical, as in big levers and hammers.  :P

When I say specialists needed, I should add that I can take care of the following:

Rocker Cover Gasket Change
Breather System Clean
Wishbones
Droplinks
Front Brake Discs
Front Brake Pads
Thermostat change (depending on how that goes this weekend)
Exhaust Cats Back (depending on how that goes this weekend)
Central Door Locking Motors
General Servicing

Cheers,

Chris.

Yeah, have you seen EP's list of things that need doing?  That's more than a day for sure!  :o

Actually, that probably is achievable in a day IF it goes to plan.  It would be a bloody long day mind, and would take a couple on it full time...

Lol. I was attempting to do a list of things I 'can do' rather than 'can do all in one day'! Although if I did one of my alnighters with the flood lights anythings possible  :P

I'd be up for that Chris.  I've always got spare room at mine for those who want to make a day of it - granted I'm a half hour drive or so away fron Chris - but the roads back to Newbury are fun.

Can't say that I'm mechanically minded but the best way I've always leanred was to watch!

Hmmm. I wonder if my parents have any holidays booked?

They have plenty of parking for Omegae and are in the right geographical area (Mortimer).

Looks like we're getting some interest here now, and even if we don't do that many cambelts / if any - im sure there are lots of other bits we could all pull together and do - and make a bit of a meet + bbq out of it (can you tell im desperate to try out my new bbq?!)

::)Omegea? Interesting plural. Perhaps it should be submitted to the next collins, oxford concise edition?

Judging from the positive comments I had from the owners of the cars I worked on at Brackley, I'm happy to lend my services for changing cambelts etc.. 4 pots I can do in an hour.. totally confident to do V6 changes too. I'm sure with enough Notice Markie can come along too.. he's getting to know Omega's inside out (after helping me with about 10 of them so far..!!)

Although I've just sucesfully done one... I don't think we can do top end rebuild / head off work in one day :D

There is actually a member in the slough area I believe, who needs cambelt, breathers, backbox and maybe cam covers done. I've been meaning to help him for a while, but I've been rushed to the point of crazy... I would like if we couldl fit that one in.

If stat changes were to be done.. a plentiful supply of the 2 different types of seal is in order.. PLUS the coolant transfer pipe O rings.. plus a couple of spare transfer pipes... they occasionally break on removal!

I'm definately up for doing a long day at it.. and being an onsite mechanic :)

Would need to sort somewhere to stay... and hopefully enough beer to drink that I loose my inhibitions when all the work is done ;D ;D ;D
