Cambelt done, £383.32, not that cheap for an indie.  :-\

A mere bagatelle for a man of your wealth. :)

Hmmmm....I was a bit surprised at that price, I must admit. Vauxhall quoted my mate (exactly the same car) £410, and they would use genuine parts, proper Vx coolant and given me a courtesy car. But, as Al said in another thread, they tend to only change the belt and waterpump, leaving the tensioner to go bang at a later date.
I got it done now because, not being able to get a definitive answer on the interval, I went on what my mate said Vauxhall told him......6 years or 100,000 miles. Today he tells me he won't be getting his done till September. When I told him that would be seven years, he said Vauxhall said it would be okay till then. Grrrrrrrr......... ;D

£100 for the Gates kit with waterpump 2.0 diesel astra J
if they buy the  belt, pump, tensioner, idler separate  it adds up to much more
about £20 of coolant IF it was replaced
£320 ex VAT
so 200 labour
or they brought the bits separate

jobs done ,so forget about it for another 6, 7 ,10  :-\  years  :P

As I said earlier, Dave, I thought the price was a bit steep. But how many of us ask for a price beforehand? Not me.
As you say, it's done now, and I really needed it done for peace of mind. I use it daily and do about 17,000 miles pa, really can't afford to be without.

I always do.

Otherwise they use the 'think of a large number and then double it' method of financial calculation. :)

I always ask for a price and shop around before having any work done
(not that that happens often, most jobs i do myself, other than windscreens or specialist jobs)
or buying anything big or renewing insurances etc
i'm a tight git ,to put it politely  ;D :D
