My hearings not what it used to be.
I was thinking of something like this :-
https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07CG8T22S/?coliid=I2HWT6IF7GXEOU&colid=2QD9IRTUT18NJ&psc=1&ref_=lv_ov_lig_dp_it
So that I can have them spread about the house, or are they a waste of money.

Depends how big your House is and how fast you can run to the door to answer it :)

Had a few sets in the past, found them nothing but unreliable, only 1 ringing, none ringing, always loosing signal or needing batteries.
In the end fitted a transformer, and traditional bell. https://www.diy.com/departments/byron-wired-connection-brass-door-chime/305888_BQ.prd
Now everyone hears it first time, every time, whether they want to or not. ;D
However noone likes being very near it if someone rings....Does make you jump if its near your ear!
-
I had one, it regularly failed to work resulting in missing deliveries etc. I now have a Ring and love it. A bit pricey but well worth it.

I've got a wired transformer powered at the minute, but can't hear it if tv is on, or upstairs, even with my hearing aid in.

Hmmm, I've looked at ring as well, I presume you need to carry your mobile phone everywhere, great if I've left it downstairs whilst I've just popped upstairs.

If you want alerts on your phone, yes.
If you want it to ring the bell you already have attached to your wired transformer, no - it will do just that and work like a "regular" doorbell when you are at home.
If you want chimes elsewhere in your house that aren't attached to the same two-wire circuit, you can buy the WiFi enabled chimes and put them anywhere with WiFi coverage.
-
My Dad is seriously hard of hearing and has a number of strobe lights around the house that flash when the doorbell is triggered. I guess they are wirelessly triggered and as far as I know he hasn't had any issues in an 1850's house with very solid walls. I will find out what they are when I'm next visiting if you like?

I got a one-to-one set from Amazon about 18 months ago. Just one push switch and two chimers (one plug in, one battery). Still working fine.

Sorry 1 by 1

We had one as well, very unreliable, fitted by previous owner.
I pulled it off, people can just knock. :)

Father just bought something similar to this, works really well, and you can have the app to see who's at the door on a number of phones.

Bought one last August from Lidl , so far no problems whatsoever.

Using Ring 2 - seems great. Will be investigating the camera/ motion only options for another property. What I find useful is that you get a video to all your devices of motion at the door irrespective of whether or not the doorbell is pushed but you only need to delete the history from one device and it deletes from all. It works for us because we are quite a distance from the road and so the motion set up prevents too much non relevant activity from being picked up. I am seeing just how lazy my wife is and how many bags she comes back with after shopping.

Yes. If you really want to play at being a spy, put one indoors ;D

I also track her during the day via the debit card usage.

And, as a bonus, footage from ours was used as part of a criminal conviction.
Without it, the 50-0 never would have identified and arrested the person who went through our cars one night - probably the same person who went through the neighbours cars two years later after he got out, but hey.. I don't know if the second person was caught, but the neighbours had footage of him on their Ring floodlight camera.

I have installed these twice now in two homes and they are brilliant.

Always work, with only the bell push itself requiring a battery once a year at most. :y

My M-I-L's new house has a Lloytron one which has umpteen different (very irritating) tunes in it.
Even better, she has no idea how to change the tune, so we set it to a new one of our choice whenever we visit. ;D
Definitiely don't get one of them. ::)
-
Mrs TB's folks uses the wireless ones, they never seem to last long, irrespective if he buys from local DIY superstores or from the likes of Amazon.
Mrs TB's bro has a Ring, but I know it wouldn't work for us, as we've never got the phones with us, plus even if I did, the annoyance factor would cause something to get broken.
-
Also, when I see a Ring, I think its a rich techno geek. Well worth breaking into if they don't actually answer the door.
-
So you can buy a button that screws on the door, that calls your phone to let you know someone is there? Or that connects to a wifi thingy to do the same job? Really???
What's wrong with a heavy knocker on the door?
-
https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B01I527732/ref=pe_3187911_189395841_TE_dp_1
I've got two of these, as I was pi55ed off with the batteries failing and not realising it, and on these the bell-push doesn't need a battery. The action of pressing it generates a wireless signal to the plugged in chime unit(s), with about 50 chimes to choose from, which are loud enough for even someone with Shack-ear to hear. I bought the first about 18 months ago for the back door, and was so impressed, bought the second one for the front. :y

Does that knocker record video? Can you hear it when you're in the garage down the bottom of the garden? Can you speak to delivery people when you're at work and ask them to leave the parcel somewhere? Bloody clever knocker, that.

Given the scrotes around here don't seem to know what one is, I don't think that's a real problem either.

Couple of red LEDs for the eyes and that'd be perfect to keep the JWs away. :y

If someone in a balaclava knocks on your door don't worry, it'll only be me. ::)

..in a parallel universe where they are interested in offences other than speeding, clearly. ;)

They could arrive in minutes to your burglary. You just need to whack the burglar on the back of the head with a baseball bat.
He will get sympathy and a bandage, you will get 9 months.

If someone comes in to my in the middle of the night uninvited, he's going to get whatever I can lay my hands on. If that's a 12" kitchen knife, so be it. The police can talk till they're blue in the face, but the safety of my wife and son overrides the wellbeing of any scrote who burgles houses.

An old story, not sure if it's true or not......
Man phoning police - "There is a burglar on my premises"
Police - "Sorry sir, we don't have anyone available for several hours"
Man - "I caught him and think I've killed him"
Minutes later, a police car arrives at his house.
Man to police - "I thought you didn't have anyone available?"
Police - "We came to arrest you, not the burglar!"
Ron.

Thanks for all your comments and advice, at the minute I think I'll carry on with my present set up, wired door chime and knocker.
Even with this set up, some delivery men rap on my door with their knuckles.
