Corsa B 1.6 (X16XE I think), has dropped its engine mount drivers side, looks like bolt / nut that connect the Wing mount to the engine mount bracket has worked lose. Anyway question is its the engine is now hanging about 3 inch'es lower that side minus the bolts, if I get underneath and lift the engine with a trolly jack via a bit wood etc, is this likely to dent or crease the sump?, or should it be ok to lift the engine so I re nut / bolt back in place.

A nice thick piece of ply supporting the whole sump bowl will work well.


Unbolt the engine mount completely and examine the threads that hold it to the engine before you go any further.

Cant really do too much, as I need to recover the car first, idealy by driving it short distance somewhere, the engine Cam Pulley side is now pushed up against the inner wing, so these no room to work around the wing mount, but I reckon by lifting the engine up and can at least get one of the bolts in. 

looks like theres two fixing bolts together, one looks like a stud bolt that attached to the wing mount, facing down so missing a nut,the other seems like a missing stud bolt that fixes upside down in a threaded hole of the wing mount.

Think these have an alloy sump so big block of wood and you should beok

Block of wood and Jack will be fine. Then rock the engine by hand to get the bol?t holes lined up if needed. Assuming threads in chassis aren't jacketed

Yep, thanks Webby, my thoughts exactly, at least get it off the road for now.

will head back shortly hopefully before the Sun disappears, armed with more tools, will take a Tap set as well just incase it needs some persuading.

Anyone know what the thread size is?, looks around M8 but didn't get that far.

Pure guess but normally they're big buggers. Possibly m10. 

Take m8 up to m12 to be safe

To remove the mounting can be a real arse especially if it has power steering and air-con.  You have to undo part of the suspension to lower the engine.  Jobs a lot easer if you take the headlamp out you can get to the front mount bolt  better access
