It's at the bottom just in front of the radiator.

Omega General Help / Query re breather box
« on: 08 April 2007, 14:37:09 »
I am bit confused due to the fact that the pictures are missing from RonaldMcBurger's breather box cleaning maintenance guide - as far as I understand I need to clean the inside of the flat plastic chamber under the Ecotec logo, and the pipes leading to it from behind the engine, but not the actual metal box that is stuck on the back of the engine?

Thanks....

Omega General Help / Query re new VX brake pads
« on: 07 April 2007, 02:23:48 »
The new Vx front pads came as two pairs: one pair had an arrow on the backplate - each in a different direction, the other pair had no arrows and were identical.

The instructions that came in the box said:

'With asymmetrical backing plate brake pads, the arrow must point in the direction of the rotation of the disc when driving forward.'

So it would seem that on each wheel there is one 'directional' type pad and one 'normal' pad.

The question is, which side does the directional pad fit on - the piston (inner) side, or the wheel (outer) side?

You would think all I need do is look at how the old pads were fitted (they were installed by Vx dealer) - well I did, and the 'directional' pads were indeed on the piston side, but I am not sure I can rely on that considering the facts that the arrows were pointing backwards, i.e. against the direction of rotation...

It anyone can shed some light on this one it will be much appreciated!

Omega General Help / Caliper Carrier Bolts P/N?
« on: 23 February 2007, 17:23:31 »
Can someone with EPC find-out the P/N for the front caliper carrier securing bolts (these are the bolts securing the brake caliper carrier to the hub)? It's a 2001 2.6 but I think they are all the same (apart from some early 4-cylinder models).

The bolts need to be torqued by angle, and I like to replace this type of bolts when disturbing them (I know not everyone does!).

Thank you...

Omega General Help / Vibration when braking
« on: 15 February 2007, 15:18:30 »
…only when driving at motorway speed, and when applying light pressure to the pedal… driving slower, or applying firm pressure, does not cause this.

Is it due to…

warped disks?

wheel bearings?

wheel balancing?

other suspension component…?

Thanks!

Omega General Help / Oil pressure gauge on V6 engine?
« on: 22 December 2006, 18:03:33 »
As far as I know, none of the Omega models have a variant with oil pressure gauge incorporated in the dash, hence no gauge sender available. However – does anyone know if any of the other variants of the V6 – i.e. in the Vectra, Calibra, etc – had an oil pressure gauge in the dash? If so it may be possible to obtain a gauge sender from that model which will replace the oil pressure switch. Any info on this would be appreciated.

Then clean the breather - clogged ones result in leaky cam cover gaskets.

..gathers no moss.

Or so they say.

But my car does.  :o

The rubber around the four corners of sunroof resembles a barn roof - it is green... Not sure what to do about it without damaging the rubber or the paintwork. Has anyone else experienced anything like this? Didn't happen with my previous 'meega which I ran for three years.

AA would faint of it happend on his car...  ;D

Omega General Help / Autobox Selector Noisy
« on: 09 October 2006, 17:38:19 »
My current facelift has this so-called safety feature preventing the autobox selector from being moved out from Park unless the brake pedal is applied (I didn't have it on my 97 Omega - so it must have been introduced at a later stage). Basically it's a switch on the pedal that actuates a solenoid next to the base of gear selector that pulls back a lever to allow the selector to be moved.

Well the thing is that the solenoid makes a clunky metalic noise when I press the brake pedal. I am not sure if it was always like this, I just recently noticed it. Can someone else confirm if their's is also noisy? The reason I am asking is that if the thing is just plain noisy, than I'll live with it (or unplug it and wedge the lever open..), but if it shouldn't be that way then I'll try to get one from the scrappies.

Omega General Help / ESP for EPC
« on: 29 September 2006, 23:28:41 »
As we all know there is a piece of software called Electronic Parts Catalogue (EPC) that none of us has (obviously) as it is Vx only. However it has been brought to my attention that some people here posses paranormal telepathy powers that allow them to read data from remote computer system. Now please read this list:

For Omega 2.6 Autobox AR25:
Main sump gasket
Small sump gasket
Drain plug washer
Autobox filter

If you have managed to guess what I am about to do, then you are obviously one of these psychics – so could you please get your mind to wonder into the computer of the nearest Vx dealer and fish-out the Part Numbers for these items. Many thanks!

PS – My own paranormal telepathy powers don’t work

General Car Chat / Sad news...
« on: 02 May 2010, 11:06:02 »
In Auto Express' customer satisfaction survey, 7 out of the 15 lowest placed (out of 100 models) were Vauxhalls... in fact no Vauxhall made it into the top 80... Ouch  :(

General Car Chat / Opie Oils
« on: 29 April 2010, 23:33:04 »
Needed some filters for the Merc, and since I saw Opie Oils recommended elsewhere in this forum I thought I'd order the filters from them.

My pre-sales email query was answered promptly, and I paid a reasonable price for Austrian-made Mahle filters which arrived within 2 days and free delivery. So well done Opie Oils.

The only thing I would say though, is that after discount to OOF club members, their prices sort of just about match other low-cost online resellers, so we are not talking about eBay prices. But for the same price, I prefer to buy from them so I am one happy customer.

PS - No, I did not get a free Opie Oils key chain in return for this post :)
