General Car Chat / Insurance question
« on: 08 January 2010, 18:32:12 »
Thanks to the weather conditions, my wife's car now had a crack in the front bumper. I have full-comp, but the excess is £250. Replacing the bumper (at a garage) will obviously cost more...

So what do I do, claim off the insurance and fix it, or save the £250 and just drive with a cracked bumper...?

General Car Chat / Sprint Booster - Snake Oil?
« on: 23 September 2009, 12:53:08 »
Did anyone hear of:

Snake oil?

Apparently this is not available for Opel/Vauxhall, so I don't expect anyone will actually have it on their Omegas, but I was wondering if any one had any experience with it on another car.

General Car Chat / Insignia
« on: 12 September 2009, 08:57:13 »
...just to say it is a beautiful car, and I am very happy for Vx that they seem to be selling them well.

Can't wait for them to trickle down to the second-hand market, hopefully with the traditional Omega-style depreciation.... only drawback is that it is not RWD, but then nobody's perfect :)

General Discussion Area / Question re MOT....
« on: 09 March 2009, 08:38:16 »
I hope someone might know...

I am currently abroad, and it looks like I will not make it back to the UK in time to renew the MOT, i.e. I will probably be back a couple of days after it expires. Is this a problem, or can I just drive to the MOT station a few days later? The car is parked on public road, if it makes a difference...

The obvious option would be to ask a friend to take the car and MOT it, but I was just wondering what will happen if I just try to MOT it a few days later?

Thanks...

General Discussion Area / Worms
« on: 20 November 2008, 20:32:30 »
A minister decided that a visual demonstration would add emphasis to his Sunday sermon.

Four worms were placed into four separate jars.

The first worm was put into a container of alcohol.
The second worm was put into a container of cigarette smoke.
The third worm was put into a container of chocolate syrup.
The fourth worm was put into a container of good clean soil.

At the conclusion of the sermon, the Minister reported the following results:

The first worm in alcohol - Dead
The second worm in cigarette smoke - Dead
Third worm in chocolate syrup - Dead
Fourth worm in good clean soil - Alive.

So the Minister asked the congregation - What did you learn from this demonstration???

Maxine was sitting in the back, quickly raised her hand and said, 'As long as you drink, smoke and eat chocolate, you won't get worms!'

General Discussion Area / LHD cars? Your opinion appreciated...
« on: 27 August 2007, 10:04:17 »
Due to my continental connection I seem to get involved with LHD cars more often than your average motorist..

A few years ago a friend who moved away from the UK left me an LHD A-Reg Merc 280SEL with 110,000km (70k miles) to sell on his behalf. Not bad at all for what was then a 15 years old car. It was garaged and immaculate. I drove it for a few months waiting for the right buyer, and eventually sold it to an Iranian guy who took it out to Iran with him.

We now have an R-reg LHD Previa which we bought new in Europe and brought here with us almost 10 years ago. It is used for the school run and only covered around 30k miles. It has full Toyota main dealer history and is in excellent condition, but externally has a few dents and scratches. We will eventually be looking at selling it, though as before with the Merc I will need to find the right buyer. Interestingly it seems to attract attention from buyers from African countries, my understanding is that these cars are much loves in places like Nigeria, and the cost of a body repairs over there is practically nil (the Toyota dealer in North London quoted £4.5 just for a re-spray!).

We are also looking at buying a new car to replace the Previa (at which point the Previa will go on sale), but can’t make up our minds whether to buy it here or in Europe. Buying in Europe is cheaper, and the wife prefers the left-hand driving position anyway (the only problem really is with car parks barrier ticket machines), but I prefer a car that will be easy to sell – if we get another LHD car than I will again have to drive it around for a couple of months until the right buyer (probably from Africa or Middle East) is found, while an RHD car can be traded-in at any dealership.

Just wondered what where your thought on the subject... how difficult it would be to sell LHD cars here, and if you have any suggestions for a better/quicker way to sell the LHD Previa when the time comes, rather than drive it around trying to attract attention from foreigners...?

General Discussion Area / Panoramic Sunroof - advice sought...
« on: 02 November 2008, 14:06:37 »
Help and advice appreciated:

I am looking for a car with one of them double-opening sunroofs.

Several cars have 'panoramic roof' option, e.g. the Zafira, C-Max, Peugeot SW series, etc. However, they are just glass roofs and don't actually open.... the only car I managed to identify so far with double-opening sunroofs is the Fiat Multipla.

Anyone can help me find other alternatives? The basic requirements are, err, basic... 5 seats or more, four doors, preferably mpv/mini-mpv/hatch type of car... can be any size big or small.

Thank you....

Guy walks into a brothel, asking for ‘something special’. Madam says we have just the thing for you, Sir, follow me... she shows him into a room where a busty blonde awaits. Blonde says take your clothes off. Guy ask what are we doing? Special technique, answers the blonde. Guy gets undressed. Blonde hand him a.... duck suite, web feet feathers and all. WTF is this? Just put it on... guy puts on the duck suite. Blonde opens a big chest, takes out four large springs.... what now? Put one spring on each of your hands and feet... guys puts four springs on. Now hop around the room, says blonde lady. I was told new technique, but this is ridiculous, says guy, what technique is it, anyway? vorsprung durch technique, says blonde lady...
