If I was forced to have one I would choose an old pickup truck from the 40,s or 50,s because they have a lot of character. Cars though - no thanks.

How about a Cadillac Catera?  ;D ;D ;D

Wholeheartedly agree with you DG.

The problem with the methodology of the Australian Government is, they have/are imposing a fee to companies (US Tech Giants, as they call them) to broadcast News.

Whilst I understand why they want to/are doing it, it rubs me up the wrong way as it is 'double standards'.

If they came out and said "You shall not post news articles in our Country", then fine... But, to say "You can post whatever drivel you like, provided you pay for it" is somewhat wanky.... Dontchafink?

Aussie Government have got a little upset that their media isn't getting paid for news coverage, as, the likes of Facebook and Google spread news for 'free'.

The Aussie's want the likes of Facebook to pay lots of money to them for the privilege of free speech.

I mean, I kind-a get it.  The likes of Facebook shouldn't really be an outlet for 'News' as it can be manipulated in a number of ways, usually losing all track of what the original story was about.

But, I also think the Aussies are idiotic in what they are attempting to do.  The way we consume 'Media' and 'News' has changed.  Very few people buy a Newspaper nowadays (for many reasons), the 6PM & 10PM News Broadcasts only have substantial viewing figures when something catastrophic has happened.

Would the storing of cars over a period of time lead to deterioration and subsequently a fall in market value? I'm sure that those cars at Rockingham aren't laid up with the loving care that you guys on here store your pride and joy. ???

Isn't that what Lancia did all those years ago?  And look where Lancia are now in the UK  ;D ;D

Let's be honest, you could store a Lancia in a heated workshop, covered in Baby Oil and it would still rot away in weeks.

One of many reasons why inspections should be done by a disinterested third party

My, Lex Leased Van went for MOT in January.  Kwik-Fit (as demanded by Lex).

2 front tyres, new front disks and pads.... and wait for it.... two new brake light bulbs as they weren't emitting enough lumens!  ;D

Tyres easily had 2.5mm, Discs were changed last service (Vx), so maybe 28k miles ago.  I'll give them the pads (although I didn't see what was removed) and as for the 3yr old original brake-light bulbs???????;D ;D ;D

This is not a new idea.

I remember when John Noakes made a 76 floor skyscraper out of old milk bottle tops, on Blue Peter. :)
Ok....how is that relevant?

First two words of your initial post.   ;D

I think anyone who is eligible, should take full advantage of the scheme.   :y

You may need to make compromises on the car you actually 'lease' but, as you say, the cost difference compared to buying/leasing a new car without the Motability Scheme is huge!!!

Something like the MG ZS Electric car (Automatic) is free of the PIP advanced payment.  Would I buy one?  Hell no.  Would I have one for a small monthly charge, knowing that anything and everything that could/would go wrong with it would be fixed and I would never be without a car?  Of course.

Get yourself a Motability Scheme Pack, and read it carefully.  You'll probably get the Charging Point installed FOC, if you have the driveway, and the installation is 'basic'.  (By basic, I mean, they don't have to run cabling under 100m of landscaped garden for example).

I know this isn't a popular view amongst all you diesel-heads here, but I think the established car manufacturers are way behind the curve when it comes to EV's and have let the newcomers like Tesla steal a march.   ::)

You'd think that once they fully engage though, the likes of Ford, GM, JLR, Toyota etc will wipe the floor with Tesla and the newer Chinese companies, but we'll see!  :)

Yeah, kinda..... Had it not been for Tesla, the 'well established' manufacturers would have continued to drag their heels and do the square root of naff-all.

I'll hold judgement for now, but when first to market has patents on so many things, it does somewhat thwart the opposition.

I still prefer PS2 mouses & keyboards.
Modern fancy stuff.  Far to easy to plug them in the wrong port, unlike the proper originals.

9Pin Serial Mouse and AT Keyboard.  All industry standard at the time..... oh how things have changed.

GPU pricing is solely down to Cryptocurrency miners.
Only if you listen to (notoriously lazy) computer journos.

Whilst the crypto-miners have had an impact, you'll find most are going into data centres and supercomputers.

Data centres don't tend to have a huge array of GPU performance, for obvious reasons.  Supercomputers, yes, but they are not as prevalent as people make out.  The *new* big thing in PC gaming was going to be Cloud Gaming.... it never really took off, and big names in the industry have since dropped plans to expand, or indeed scrapped what they had already implemented.

Seriously, cyrptocurrency mining is MASSIVE, and only getting bigger.  You only need to look at the number of new currencies which are being made-up on the spot sold as the next BitCoin.  Serious money is being spent by the Energy companies, as Electricity theft is a huge problem, and not for growing Herbs.

Just to add, my first PC was an IBM AT, with a single 5 1/4" FDD, a 20MB MFM drive and Monochrome Monitor.

The thought of having more Cache on my CPU now than the entire storage on my first computer is very strange!  ;D
