Omega General Help / Omega V6 downpipe gasket

I have had issues with my 3.0L V6 exhaust downpipe gasket. Each time I change the gasket it fine then it starts blowing within about 6 months. I’ve tried different makes of gasket I even had a genuine GM and it still went. I have checked for flatness on the flange and they seam ok.
Can anyone recommend a gasket or a fix? It only seams to be the o/s which would point to the manifold or downpipe flange!! Have a mot in 6 weeks so would like to have a permanent fix.
Any gasket recommendation would be good.

Omega General Help / MV6 3.0L exhaust blowing

I’ve had an issue with one manifold to Down pipe (cat) blowing. I’ve changed the gasket about 3 times now cures the problem and 2-3 months later happens again and gasket has blown. I’ve tried different types of gasket with no luck. One was a genuine GM part.
I’m worried about snapping off a stud if I over tighten it. The flanges look ok but can only assume one isn’t flat as only have the issue on the o/s
An advice would be appreciated

I’ve been trying to remove my steering wheel, everything is removed (air bag, nut) but it won’t come off the spline. Have soaked in WD40 any advice on how to get it off would be great!!! Was removed about 3 years ago.

Omega General Help / Engine water loss.

A few weeks ago I went to London and my 3.0L MV6 overheated.
I topped it up and it has ran fine. But ever since it has been using water.
Can’t find a leak anywhere but needs about 2l of water a week. There is no water in the oil, or oil in the water. Has anyone experienced anything similar on a V6? The only think I can think of is the head gasket and it is burning off the water.
Have already changed the engine twice so if I can’t sort the issue may have to scrap the car.

Omega General Help / Clunk from front suspension

I have had a issue with a rattle from the front of my MV6 when driving on rough roads. It would stop when I touched the brakes. I changed the caliper slide pins that have stopped the rattle. But if I hit a pot hole/drain cover I get a clunk from the front. Should there be a gap below the front strut mount top hat in the engine bay? it is about 5mm. It had Bilstein struts & eibach springs fitted.

Omega General Help / V6 exhaust to manifold gaskets

Does anyone know where I can get some genuine 3.0L V6 manifold to exhaust gaskets? Had ordered some from vauxparts only to be told they were out of stock after 3 weeks. Have changed twice in 18 months with cheap eBay parts that don’t last.

I have had to change the gasket on my 1999 3.0L MV6 down to about 3 in the last 2 years. I assume it is because I have used the cheap ones off eBay, they just break up each time.
I’ve brought some genuine VX ones so hopefully will sort it this time, just want to ask is it just the gasket, or should I also use a joint paste? Or any other tips?

Finally have driven my 3.0 V6. Ran ok at first then seamed to be on 5 cylinders. Have done paper clip test and have code 16 (knock sensor) but seam to be getting 12, but no code for that. Any ideas? Will try changing knock sensor.

Omega General Help / MV6 3.0L rebuild issues

Don't know if anyone can help with this one but I'm about to give up with my 3.0L MV6 Manual. it has been off the road for over a year have done a load of work on it, all new brakes, shocks changed engine etc. about 4 months ago thought I had finished it. I did about 10 miles in it and it drove great, then spotted the rear crank main seal was leaking.
so removed the engine & box and changed the bearing. all seamed ok. drove it again no leak, but now a horrible vibration above 20mph, like you are driving with a rear flat tyre!!! have looked it over can't see any obvious problem. Am going to change the prop rubbers, there is a little backlash in the diff but not excessive. as it drove ok before am baffled, wondered if anyone had a similar problem before? I'm getting to the stage of having to break it!!!

I have put my 3.0L engine in again, but have a 2 pin connector that I can find where it goes? It is on the o/s lower engine bay by the red rad drain tap. In the loom that goes to the rad temp sender. It’s 2 round pins, but can’t find an empty connector. I have photos but can seam to attach them, some help what it is for would be useful

Omega General Help / V6 Rear Crank Seal

Several months ago I changed the engine in my 3.0l Omega. When I did I noticed there was traces of oil in the manual Bell housing so changed the rear crank seal with a seal from eBay. Fitted engine and did about 100 miles, then noticed an oil leak from the front of the gearbox!!! I have got a genuine GM rear seal, and pulled off the gearbox. Has anyone got any advice on fitting the seal? I have had a sleeve made the seal size to knock it on, but should I tap it on with brass bar. Also should it be fitted flush, or tapped home until it bottoms out. Any advice would be appreciated.

Omega General Help / Engine Cuts Out

After I finally got my car sorted, fitted another 3.0L Engine and all new brake pipes, suspension, etc took the car for a mile run all seemed good.
Next day went to start car, wouldn’t go, left it next day started first turn runs for about a minute then cuts out, will restart but keeps cutting out. This now happens every time.
I suspect it could be fuel had about 1/4 of a tank, have put in a couple more gallons, had a new fuel filter. Still the same. I changed the crank sensor still the same.
Any ideas would be great!!!

Omega General Help / TC issue

After finally finishing my engine change and fitting all new brakes & suspension, was finishing getting the car ready for the mot. Haven’t driven it yet but before I put the wheels back on thought I would test the clutch with it on axle stands (manual) all works fine but TC light comes on when in gear, and keeps putting brakes on switch TC and drives wheels fine.
I fitted new brake lines and bleed system, I assume it is a sensor but have checked all connections and seems fine? Any idea how to find the problem sensor or could it be something else?

Omega General Help / Manual Clutch

After my 3.0L manual has been off the road for a year, i’ve Changed the engine, fitted a new clutch plate and slave cylinder. I have bleed the brakes today as I fitted new pipes. Brakes bleed fine, but can’t get clutch to bleed. I used a easy bleed kit, when I open the bleed nipple I just get air out, was going to manually pump it but pedal goes to floor (obviously as there is no fluid in system) any ideas, as the brake and clutch are the same reservoir it seams the fluid isn’t getting into the system. Any ideas?
