Cars for Sale & wanted / Wanted - 3.2 Manual
« on: 25 October 2015, 02:28:31 »
I miss my two ex-plod Miggy's :(

I think the time has come to get back into the fold, hence my request!

If anyone has one that they're thinking of selling please let me know.  It must be a saloon, and a 3.2, and a manual box too.

I think I might have more luck finding Lord Lucan riding Shergar, but what the hey...

Good evening ladies and gents,

Very long time no speak.  Haven't been around much of late, and am very much a Omega-less at the mo - it's about 2yrs now since I let my ex-plod Nocturno Blue 3.2 go, and I do miss her :(

I've currently got an Astra convertible turbo (Z20LET), Vectra Elite turbo (Z20NET, the Saab-derived lump), and a '79 Honda Superdream CB400N that I've restored.

Hope you are all doing well :)

General Car Chat / Astra Z20LET Cambelt Request...
« on: 19 August 2012, 01:58:20 »
Hi Folks,

In the hunt for a 7-seater, I ended up stumbling over a Astra Convertible Turbo for absolute pennies - had to have it.

Only prob is, it's done 30k, is a 2003, and is still on orig cambelt!!

Need it changing asap.  Just getting my feelers out to see if there's anyone here willing to do the cambelt, tensioner, waterpump, oil and filter change?  Mr Elite Pete - I've PM'd you, if you ain't seen pal ;-)

Only prob is, with belt being so far overdue, I'd be looking at someone who could head up to sunny Wigan...

Cheers  :y

Well folks,

The new bambino is on the way in Jan, hence the reason for me selling my Miggy,

Miggy got sold to a very nice gentleman in Lincs, a splendid chap indeed he was, a pleasure to deal with (especially after all the messers I had to deal with during the selling process...  >:(  >:(  >:( )

After the ol' girl went, I got by just using the 400 Superdream I restored over winter for work, seeing as the weather was nice.  Just to tide me over till we got back off hols in the Motorhome.

Having got back today (Saturday), it's just sunk in...

F**k, I miss my Miggy  :-[  :-[  :-[

Saw loads in Germany, some absolute stunners.  And they look sooo much better with the Opel grille for some reason.

Was chatting to one German bloke, who was towing a huuuuge Hobby Prestige (and I mean huge, it's the size of 'van that needs an LGV to tow it over here) with a 3.2 Saloon at one campsite (in my broken German, he didn't speak a word of the Queens), showed him a pic of mine on my phone, and gave him the URL of here.  He was very happy at that.  He said - I think - that "these cars can tow anything, and I used to have a 3.0 Opel Reckord before this Omega, and I wants to keep this Omega till I die".

I'm just thinking Zafira GSi right now as the way forwards  ::)

And remembering fondly the last time we went up the Autobahn in our Miggy, 4-up, with all our camping gear in the boot, at 162mph on TomTom.

God bless JWG  :'(  :'(

Cars for Sale & wanted / 2004 Ex-Plod 3.2V6 Manual Saloon
« on: 26 June 2012, 13:36:11 »
Messed about on eBay - yet again!!!!   >:(  Some t1t bidding on it, then getting in touch with me after the auction ended saying he's been made redundant so can't complete sale!

So anyway, she's back available now if there's any interest on here?
The 2nd-motorbike looks like it's gone out the window, now am needing a 7-seater (long story!).

Sick and tired of being messed about, so 1st £1500 cash takes her.

If you want anymore info, or to arrange a viewing, either PM me on here, or phone me on 07815 794119.

Up-to-date Photo's and Advert text posted below, similar to what was in the eBay advert (apologies for the waffle!):

Cheers folks  :y

2004 ("53" Plate) Vauxhall Omega 3.2 24V V6 Manual - Ex-Police Saloon
This one of the very last Omega's, being registered on 1st Feb 2004, by Wiltshire Constabulary.

Owned by me since 2008 - hunted high and low, all over the country, for about 6 months in 2008 looking for another ex-Police 3.2 Omega, because I didn't want an Automatic. I wanted one as new as possible, with as low-mileage as possible, with the Manual gearbox, that wasn't white, and that was a saloon (not that I'm fussy!!).

I'm the second owner (the first private owner, since her retirement from the Police in July 2008 at circa 96k miles). I'm told that she was an unmarked motorway police car, hence her being dark metallic blue (the actual colour is Nocturno Blue) as oppose to the usual white, and low mileage for an ex-Police car as unmarked cars aren't used anywhere near as much as the "stickered-up" cars.

She's done approximately 130k miles, but this may go up as is being used daily.  Nothing for one of these engines.

Don't let the size of the engine put you off either. The 3.2 Manual is much more economical that the 3.2 Automatic. We've actually found it to be no different economy-wise than my wife's Ford Puma 1.7!!!

My Omega has been meticulously maintained - the Police certainly don't mess about when it comes to servicing. I've got the full Service History print-out from Police ownership (had over £12,000 spent on her!!!), and she's been regularly serviced in my ownership too.

A full new Cambelt Kit and Water Pump change, with coolant flush-and-change was carried by a Vauxhall Omega specialist (Elite Pete) at 119,731 miles on 26/03/2011, Crank Sensor changed by local Vauxhall main dealers too.

Typical for an ex-Police car, there were a few holes here and there where they've had aerials/equipment fitted. Two in the roof have been filled with grommets and fully rust-proofed so no worries there, and the ones in the dashboard I sorted by fitting a wood-effect dash from a high-spec Omega. There are still a couple of tiny holes here and there on the interior, such as on the passenger-side of the centre-console trim, but these are barely noticable and have never bothered me. The Police also fit an (in my opinion) ugly centre console "cubby box". I removed this, and fitted the standard Vauxhall Omega centre console arm rest back in its rightful place.

It's a very comfortable, practical car indeed - the seats are still comfortable after a long journey, there's bags of space inside (seated myself and 4 other adults in comfort on a number of occasions), it has one of the biggest boots I've ever seen on a saloon car, and to further increase it's load-lugging capacity for those trips to Ikea or wherever, the rear seats fold down too (which is quite rare for saloon cars I believe).

Condition-wise, she really does gleam!! I think she's in really great condition, and really does stand out. As to be expected of a car this age that isn't brand new, here and there there are a couple of light scratches, marks/stonechips, and pin-dents from inconsiderate folk not being careful opening their car doors on carparks, and a couple of scuffs on the front bumper that are hardly noticable - I was unable to pick them up on the camera. But I'm just nit-picking, they're to be expected from a car this age, and don't detract from the overall condition. Can't leave the CD Player in unfortunately, as it's my wife's and she wants me to fit it into her car, but I'll leave the facia plate and Vauxhall wiring convertor/adaptor in place, so you can just slot your own player in without any fuss or expense (the facia plate set me back about £20, and the plug-in wiring convertor/adaptor about £25) I'm also a non-smoker, so the car has never been smoked in, so there are no dodgy smells in the interior.

I put 6-months Road Tax on her at the start of this month, so taxed until the end Nov 2012, and is MOT'd till 19th Oct 2012 (passed with no advisories at all). So the car wants for nothing!

I've got both Log Books (the old-style blue/green one, and the new-style red/blue one), in my name and registered to my home address - I'm more than happy to prove this to you by showing you my photo-driving licence. There's no finance or anything owing on the car.

Cars for Sale & wanted / 3.2 Manual (Ex Plod) For Sale
« on: 07 May 2012, 03:54:19 »
I'm back on 2 wheels now, after a prolonged absence (i.e. bad bike accident 8yrs ago).

Anyway, the ol' girl isn't getting used that much anymore, so it's time to say goodbye.  I know I'm going to regret it though...  :'(

She's a 2004, on a 53 plate.  Done 129k, with a full service history (both in Police possesion, and mine).

3.2 V6, Manual box.  Get over 38mpg on a run, more than the wife's 1.7 Puma!!  Anyone who says these things drink fuel is either a liar, or an Auto driver.  The manual's are stupidly economical for the size of the engine.  I put her i 5th gear at 15mph when pootling round town, and she pulls cleanly from there.

Some pics here - she still looks the same (washed and polished every week)
http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1271471027

Also a pic to prove the cambelt change, performed by Mr Elite Pete:
http://i509.photobucket.com/albums/s334/damon8000/26032011121.jpg

And the engine bay, fully detailed:
http://i509.photobucket.com/albums/s334/damon8000/09042011123.jpg

Taxed and MOT'd (MOT Oct, tax end July).

As I say, I'm only selling to raise funds for a 2nd motorbike that I can use when it's raining, so I don't have to ruin my 32yr old Honda!

Whoever buys her will not be disappointed.

The car's in Wigan - just off the M58/M6 junction, and I'm open to viewings any time with prior arrangement.

I'm after £1,600 for her - a bargain considering she's a 3.2 with a manual box, and in bl00dy good nick, and is good on fuel, and has recently had oil and filter change, and has had a recent cambelt - she wants for nothing.

If you want a look, my mob no is 07815 794119.

Cheers  :)

General Car Chat / Value...
« on: 12 February 2012, 03:06:51 »
Not sure what to expect, but what kind of value would I be looking at on my ex-plod these days?

Took these last year, but she's still in the same nick.  Undecidied whether or not to stick hold, or get rid of the wife's Puma.  My Mig gets more MPG than her Puma, but the Puma would be easier to sell... (some folk see big engine and think dear to run...  But the Mig is cheaper to run than her 1.7 Puma!)  I'm needing a 4x4 these days, so one motor has to go...

She's an ex-plod 3.2 Manual, done 128k now, Cambelt changed at 120k by Elite Pete.  Full Police history, and had oil change by AndyB and Elite Pete as well.  MOT till Oct next year, and every time I've taken her for an MOT, the tester has commented on how clean she is underneath.

Couple of gromets in the roof, where the aerials where (she was an unmarked car).  But I treated the holes with Q-Rust and pumped em with Waxoyl when I got her 4 yrs ago - no bubbling or owt from them at all now, 4yrs later. And I fitted wood trim to the centre console to get rid of the holes in the dash.  There's a pic here from 2010 to show it:

Here's a pic of the engine mid-Cambelt job:

And here's a pic of the engine after I detailed it:

There's a couple of car-park dings here and there on the doors if you look closely, and a scuff either corner on the front bumper which don't stand out unless you look.

Performance-wise - well, I ain't a boy-racer (them days are long since behind me!!), but we've been round Europe in her and with me, the wife and kids, and 3weeks worth of camping gear in the boot, she sat at 140mph on the Autobahn quite comfortably and never missed a beat - munched up 4,000miles in 3weeks no aggro!

Tyre-wise, she's got Michelin Sports on the front, and nearly-new Pirelli Snow Sport's on the back.

This ain't a "For Sale" pitch, I just want to get me feeler's out of how much you guys and girls think ol' faithful is worth.

General Discussion Area / Apologies - yet again - but I'm back...
« on: 12 February 2012, 01:56:58 »
Well folks,  apologies for yet another long absence...

Not much of an excuse really, apart from working stupidly daft long hours, and ripping the house apart to start decorating...

And then re-plastering half the house...

And then buying and old motorbike last Sept to do up...

And then having a slight flood to contend with which meant re-decorating again in certain rooms...  >:(

And then having to finish off the rest of the decorating...

And then Xmas came along,

And then tidying up after the afore-mentioned festivities,

And then getting even busier at work...

Anyway, I'm back again now!

The Omega is - touch wood - running champion!  Still getting a regular 38mpg out of the ol' girl :)

I'm thinking of getting a fresh motor, but at the expense of the wife's Puma (the Miggy is cheaper to run than her 1.7 tin box!)

And here is the result of my winter restoration Motorbike Project - a Honda 400 Superdream:

Only 11 left of this model, according to the DVLA!  She won't pull the skin off any rice puddings (they called em a Wet Dream back in the day, but I think that was the 250's they were talking about!!  ::)  :D ) but she'll do for me!

What's new on here???

General Discussion Area / Apologies, and What've I Missed??
« on: 20 October 2011, 23:43:05 »
Hello again folks,

Apologies for being absent for so long (not that I expect anyone's noticed!  ;D )

Have been pre-occupied lately by quite a few things...
Working loooong hours, and through weekends too.
Selling our old motorhome, and searching all over the country for a new one (well, new to us) that fits our needs.
Family weddings.
Having a month touring round Europe in the afore-mentioned new-to-us motorhome.
Working even longer hours to catch up on the work missed since being away for the afore-mentioned month.

Getitng myself back onto 2-wheels!  Got a 1979/80 Honda Superdream 400.  Bought as a restoration project from a 74-yr old gent who's owned her for 25yrs!  He was asking peanuts for it (the price of a couple of good nights out!), with full MOT but no tax.  It looked a mess (the poor chap couldn't bend down to clean it, so it just got left), but I took a punt on it given it was rideable.  Got it home, and stripped it down.  Gave it a good dousing in Gunk.  Under all the grease and grime was a spotless machine.  Gave it a further good scrub and polish, built it up again, and she's come up like a new penny!  Still a few bits n bobs to sort out, but the bulk of it's done  :)

Oh, and the main thing, my Miggy flew through her MOT at the beginning of Oct, not even a single advisory!  And the MOT tester said "that's the cleanest car underneath I've seen for years", to which I said "It can't be - you told me that last year!!"  ;D  Fortunately he has a sense of humour!

So what's new on here?  Have I missed much?  I have been checking in now-and-then, but it's mostly been on my mobile, and it doesn't have the best screen to read off really...

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Wiring in Electronic Aerial
« on: 07 May 2009, 15:39:56 »
Hi Folks,

I'm going to be wiring in one of those Blaupunkt windscreen mounted aerials, which double-up as an aerial.  My Omega is ex-plod and doesn't have an aerial fitted.

I've got an aftermarket CD Player, with one of the ISO wiring harnesses plugged into my Miggy's loom.

Anyway, the aerial I've got needs a 12v +ve feed which only works when the CD Player is switched on.  It also needs a -ve feed too.

I don't want to cut into my Miggy's loom, so what I was planning on doing was splicing into the blue wire (electric aerial) on the ISO harness as the +ve feed, and into the black wire for the -ve feed.

Would this work?  Would the blue wire carry a current, as my Miggy obviously doesn't have an electric aerial?  :-/

Cheers  :y

Would this work?  As

Hi Folks,

Well, my request is exactly as it says on the tin.

As a bit of background, I've got an Ex-Police Facelift Miggy, but there's no aerial for the radio.  Looked under the back parcel shelf (it's a saloon), and there's no sign of the amplifier for the standard factory-fit rear screen heater element aerial jobbie either.

Anyway, I've got an aftermarket head unit fitted, which has an ISO connector.  Between that and the standard Miggy wiring harness for the radio, I've got one of those ISO-convertors.

I'm looking at fitting one of those electronic dashboard-mounted aerials (yes I know, cr@p reception, but it must be better than the sweet FA I have at the moment...), but they require a 12v feed.

I've thought about scotch-blocking it to the F14 feed that goes to the ashtray, but then thought I'd be better off tapping into the electric aerial feed from the head unit.

So, which colour(s) is the wire on the ISO protocol which control that?

Cheers  :y

Omega Electrical and Audio Help / Installing New Aerial
« on: 15 October 2007, 13:35:55 »
I've got a facelift MV6 saloon.  It's ex-plod, and doesn't look like it's fitted with an aerial.

Anyway, to get round this, I want to remove the roof-mounted mobile phone aerial (the black stubby one), and replace it with a beesting aerial.  Has anybody done this before?  Is it difficult?

Cheers  :y

Omega General Help / Leccy Height Adjustment - Worm Drive?
« on: 19 March 2011, 00:39:25 »
Hi Folks,

Quick question...

The passenger front seat isn't as quick going up and down as it used to be.  Having a flick through the Maintenance Guides (such an exciting life I lead on a Friday night...  :-[  :D ), I saw this helpful guide:
http://www.omegaowners.com/forum/YaBB.pl?num=1163236766

I've ran my hand from the top to the bottom of the threaded part of the shaft (which I assume is the worm drive), from the back of the seat, and towards the motor-side (at the front), there's a bearing of some sort which attaches to nothing?  It just spins freely? Double-checked it with driver-side, and that has exactly the same bearing attached to nothing - or so it would seem?

By the way - driver's side goes up and down electrically just fine, prob cos when the wife drives, she has the seat right up to the top, but I prefer it lower down.

I can see "how" the worm drive works, with there being moving brackets between the seat base and the seat frame which will alter the height depending if it's wound up or down (and move it closer to the pedals on the up-wind, and further away on the down-wind), but can't see or feel any bracket which attaches the seat brace to the frame - if that makes any sense??  :-[  The worm-drive just seems to be "floating" to me - am I missing something???

Cheers  :y

Omega General Help / Problem - misfire and EML on :-(
« on: 16 November 2010, 16:48:08 »
Hi Folks,

Just had a weird problem on the way home...   :-/

Car started running really rough - loss of power, not firing on all cylinders, and revs hunting at tick-over.
The EML (not the spanner one - the "emissions" one) started flashing, and then stayed on.

Read the fault codes, and it's coming up with:

P0300 Random/multiple cylinder misfire detected
P0302 Cylinder 2 Misfire Detected
P0303 Cylinder 3 Misfire Detected
P0304 Cylinder 4 Misfire Detected
P0305 Cylinder 5 Misfire Detected

What on earth could cause a misfire on these 4 cylinders?!

When I started it up again a couple of minutes later, it ran fine.

Any ideas??  :'(
