General Discussion Area / Broadband recommendations
« on: 19 January 2007, 23:27:52 »
Well I have had enough with that bunch of drop kicks known as Orange!  >:(

Had a problem for weeks where the exchange is clearly being overloaded causing my connection to drop out.

Had enough of excuses and then lies! Getting my migration code and off to try and find a comapny that can actually provide the service it claims!

Now I would like to know if someone can say something nice aout their ISP?
Note i am on a BT line and intend to stay on it.

Thanks :)

General Discussion Area / How Nervous?
« on: 10 January 2007, 10:51:30 »
As I type this my elite estate is in the garage either having a wheel bearing changed or an MOT done...  :-/

I know it should be fine, I have checked over everything, the brakes are all ok (stripped and cleaned rears and fitted new handbrake cable), seems to steer fine and there are no clouds of smoke (unlike the Saab!  :-[)

Yet I am still nervous as hell!

I feel like I want to be pacing up and down, awaiting the news...  ::)

General Discussion Area / Favourite Games...
« on: 06 January 2007, 23:59:54 »
Found myself looking through youtube and came across some footage of FF8 (Final Fantasy VIII to the uninitiated ;))

I so have to play that again! One of my all time favourites, massive game, took me 135hrs of gameplay 2nd time and I didn't get everything!

So what are the "great" games?

Half Life. Quite simply the best game ever made for the PC. When I played it the first time I promptly took a week off sick! ;)
Perfect mix of action, puzzles and storytelling with astonishing AI.

Mario 64. Fantastic. Superb gameplay, great graphics (at the time), and beautifully addictive.

Elite. Ooooold game for the Commodore 64 (among others). Huge open ended game. Completely original at the time.

Resident Evil (and most of the sequels Especially 4!).
Played this on the Playstation in the dark and scared myself silly! Created the "Survival Horror" genre.
Remake for the Gamecube was rather good too.

Silent Hill Series....
Where the hell did they find the guy who dreamt up this place???  :o
The most warped, twisted and downright unsettling games I have ever played!
Took the Survival Horror idea and then really made it over!
Some of the things you come across (especially in 3) are just "wrong".... :-/

Bubble Bobble.
Simple and yet soooo addictive!  :D
Just go round, trap the mosters in bubbles you produce and then pop them!
Sounds simple...and it is. Add in some power ups and the odd bonus and there you have it.
But oh boy is it addictive!

General Discussion Area / B*gger!!
« on: 03 January 2007, 16:22:16 »
Over the last week or 2 the Saab has been a bit off when you first start it in the morning... I put it down to dampness and made a note go round and check the electrics.

Today I drive it and notice idle is a bit uneven... then I notice the copious amounts of smoke coming out of the exhaust!!  >:(

Not had a chance to look yet but I suspect piston rings are gone, leaking oil straight into the cylinders, hence dodgy starting and smoking!
Taking the ignition pack off and checking the plugs will soon confirm my theory.

If it is... then I suspect my affair with the old beastie will come to a swift conclusion as I will break her for parts (more cost effective than a top end rebuild!) and go Omega shopping....again!

General Discussion Area / New Sat Nav review
« on: 19 December 2006, 16:43:00 »
Well after the debacle with the Medion sat nav I have recently got a new system.

The Mio C510E http://www.gps-systems.co.uk/mitac_mio_c510e.asp

Here is my review of it so far...

This is brilliant! :D

It is small, lightweight and will take me a month to figure out all the damn functions!

Ok, as far as navigation goes this is by far and away the finest I have ever used.
I have tried Tomtom, Garmins, Medions etc, but this is just so quick and fluid.

It has a 400mhz processor driving it and the SIRF III receiver.
When I turn it on it takes approx 8 secs to acquire a lock.... in the house!

The mapping software is Mio Map 3.2 (downloaded the free upgrade easily enough), very very impressive with full 7 digit postcode search.

On the road it gives clear instructions and so far has been totally accurate.
You can customise the display to give as much or as little information as you want. The 3d map view is particularly impressive.

It comes with the UK maps pre-installed and a DVD containing full street mapping of the rest of Europe! All you need is a 1GB SD card and you can drive pretty much anywhere.

There are just so many other features I am getting to grips with (it has an automatic night mode so it is not too bright at night for instance) that it will take an age to figure it all out.

For £200, the price of a Tomtom One, it is a complete bargain!

VERY highly recommended. :D

His death was announced tonight.

I truly hope this mans soul rots in the darkest deepest pits of hell!

He was an "acceptable dictactor" to far too many of the worlds leaders for far too many years. It is amazing what our "leaders" allow to occur if there is no oil/strategic land involved (lots of public rhetoric but under the surface things were very very different!)

He was a monster. A cold blooded mass murderer who commited more atrocities than Saddam Hussein.
A man who propogated race hate in a world that really should have long since moved on!

I personally am going to have a drink and toast this mans death for the world is a better place tonight!

As the forum has been doing so well we thought it was time to get some moderating assistance.

We have asked AA to come on board and help keep you lot in some semblance of order!  ;)
I am also very pleased to say he accepted our request!  [smiley=2vrolijk_08.gif]

So  AA is now a Global Moderator, with shiny blue stars (that will probably be polished every day! ;))

I am sure you will all make him feel very welcome!  ;D

General Discussion Area / Satellite Navigation Reviews
« on: 27 October 2006, 10:58:25 »
Ok, I bought a Medion GoPal350 this week.

£150 from the Medion Shop. It also come with TMC (picks up traffic announcements and automatically re-routes to avoid problems).

Nice looking piece of kit.

And that is where the good stuff ends!

Being returned now!
Over the last 24hrs of use it has crashed 5 times, requiring complete re-installation 3 times!
It is also slow, the touchscreen will not calibrate properly, no matter how many times I try and also has the sensitivity of a brick round the head!

In short... AVOID!

Now this means I need a different sat nav system. Can people please give reviews of what they have?

I have used the tomtom one (cheers Fin) and I have to say it is very good and the Garmin i3 which is not!

All other comments welcomed.

General Discussion Area / You've done what???
« on: 21 October 2006, 22:55:58 »
I bought another car today....  :)

However....  :-?

It is most certainly not an Omega!  :o

I decided to get myself a birthday present...
Something I have wanted for a very long time.

I have bought a 1991, J plated Saab 9000 CS Carlsson 2.3.  :D
God I love it!!  ;D

Black (good colour), manual (blessed is a manual box for it is good!!), and with about as complete a history as you will ever find!

This has virtually every receipt from new (as well as the fully stamped service book).
There are receipts for over £19K!!!  :o

It has had everything done...eg. timing chain (and tensioner) replacement and head gasket etc... £1,800!
Suddenly a replacement kit on the Omega seems positively cheap!

Ok, it is short a couple of cylinders and some muppet put the engine back in the wrong way round, but hey, I don't care (especially at the price I paid!!) :)

For some perverse reason it is also cheaper to insure than the Omega too!  :-?
It's a group 17 car with 225bhp and 250bl/ft of torque.... why the heck is it costing me less?

Howver I suspect I will pay the price in speeding fines.... ::)
